But aren't these consoles going to be like PC's now?
they're low to medium end right now... by then the xbox1 will be an abacus compared to a high end PC

Not too unexpected. After seeing motion demos fail on stage, it's too risky to not have it staged.
I definitely don't find this alarming.
One missed command and it looks really bad.

It might not matter in 3-5 years for these consoles. Xbox will be able to do a lot of the computing in its cloud from day one. This will allow it to stay pretty up to date with PCs for a while vs falling so far behind like the 360 did this gen.

But the Xbox One is built to communicate with servers in the cloud to increase the computational potential of the system. Boyd continued "[As a developer] I can start doing things like shifting latency insensitive things to the cloud. You may have a limited number of transistors in your house, but you have an unlimited number of transistors in the cloud"
As bandwidth improves, there is potential for actual game computations to be off-loaded to servers in the cloud, essentially allowing the Xbox One to become more powerful over time as more and more transistors are connected to Microsoft's cloud infrastructure.
"We have an ever-evolving, powerful world [in the cloud] that we can tap into."
"This is not going to be as static a console as we've seen in the past," Multerer enthused.

I will use the sarcastic font for you next time so you don't get so angry and red in the face.

How does that compare to a PS4?

So its like part Onlive?

This happens at these shows all the time. When they were showing Uncharted for the first time, the game kept crashing to this awful purple screen of death hours before they were going up. So they had someone in the back mimicking the guy on stage on another PS3. So if and when the game crashed, they would cut to the other playthrough.

Please do, its so hard to tell when your shitty arguments are sarcasm or not.

PS4 will still be more powerful from a hardware standpoint.
The cloud will be able to offload a lot of computing tasks from having to be done directly on the Xbox. This frees up recources and it will allow for pretty much unlimited maps and maybe even things like Planetside 2 where you have a huge open world with thousands of people on at once.
I am not sure if this would help the graphics you see on screen at all though.

As long as you promise not to ask me the same question only worded differently 18 times again.

I kind of get that, it makes sense. But the "cloud" that One will have is for online gaming, right? Will the PSN not have a "cloud" type storage for the same stuff?
"Cloud" basically means it takes processing or computations off the hardware and puts it in space, freeing up the hardware, right?

Or just for storage.
ETA:
There are multiple things they can do with the cloud.

Yeah, I knew about cloud storage, but I wasn't aware that they could do hardware computing in the cloud. Again, probably talking over my head.

I'm assuming it is similiar to Onlive, where all the computations are done on cloud servers, but in the case of the One, only part of them are done on those servers.

Nope. It's not limited to that. Xbox said any developer will have access to use the cloud to deliver content on its games. In other words they could use it to make even single player games larger and offload computing task to the cloud.

Sony bought a cloud gaming service a while back but they haven't outlined how exactly they will be using it or when it will be implemented. It's only a matter of time before everyone does this though. I doubt it will happen but as far as we know right now things like CoD on PS4 could still be P2P hosting.
Xbox has said no games will be P2P anymore as every game on Live will have dedicated servers. That's why they now have over 300K servers for Xbox Live. Well that and entertainment content, cloud storage accounts you get with your live account, etc.

Why? If you don't have a shitty connection and since it's a network with 300K servers backing it vs EA underestimating demand and penny pinching like on Sim City then I see minimal issues.
At the very least it will allow dedicated servers on every game vs shitty P2P and lag compensation on fast paced games.
Onlive being used as an example isn't too bad of a comparison though it's a bit different than how Xbox will operate. They have NEVER had any network downtime and they are a small start up with a small network.

Why?
because your point of failure potential just multiplied by a gagillion.
in the traditional model, there is a single PoF - the box. the box either works, or it doesnt. either way you know the score.
in cloud based processing there are 3 new major categories of PoF each with several parts that could cause delay or outright failure. Your home, the ISP, and the data center. you are over simplifying the risks to basically well dont have a shitty internet connection. thats a mistake on your part.
