Microsoft is announcing a new Xbox Elite 2 Core controller today, and it’s priced at $50 less than the existing Xbox Elite 2. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core (yes, that’s the full name!) is available for preorder today for $129.99, but it doesn’t include the usual interchangeable components — you’ll have to purchase those separately.

This new Xbox Elite 2 Core also doesn’t ship with a carrying case, either. If you want the rear paddles, variety of thumbsticks, and carrying case, you’ll need to purchase a separate “Complete Component Pack” for $59.99. The pack includes the following:
Carrying case
Charging dock
Classic thumbsticks (2)
Tall thumbstick (1)
Dome thumbstick (1)
Cross-shaped D-pad (1)
Set of four paddles: medium (2), mini (2)
USB-C cable

The existing black Xbox Elite 2 controller will still be available for $179.99, and both controllers will come with a one-year warranty. Microsoft was forced to extend that warranty period from just 90 days to a year after both the original and Xbox Elite 2 controllers experienced issues. Some Xbox Elite 2 owners complained of stuck buttons or stick drift, and Microsoft’s warranty extension applied retroactively.
“We’ve heard players loud and clear and have continued to improve Elite Series 2 controllers to be more reliable than ever before with refined components that are built to last,” says Daniel Ruiz, senior marketing manager for Xbox accessories. “For added peace of mind, Elite Series 2 controllers come with Microsoft’s 1-year limited warranty.”
Preorders for the new $129.99 white Xbox Elite 2 Core controller start today over at Microsoft’s online store, and it will start shipping on September 21st.

I guess I’ll just use my paddles from my shitty elite controller for this one

Will the A button and bumpers and sticks work on this one?
$129 is way too much for the hair triggers nobody uses and the adjustable stick tension.

After getting an elite, I don't think I can ever go back to a normal controller
The thing is fricking ridiculous

You should feel lucky that yours hasn't had any issues. A matter of days after the warranty on mine expired, the LB and RB buttons started sticking and double registering. I can't tell you how many times I've died in games because of that. Super frustrating.

What makes it so much better than a normal? Asking honestly.

It feels more robust, the texturing work is amazing, the sticks feel great, and the big omni D pad is awesome
it's a shame, they'd be perfect without all of the QC issues

This plus the paddles on the back make playing shooters way more fluid
When I'm playing Halo, Warzone, or Fortnite, I can operate much quicker.
Gun switching/grenade throwing is naturally where my hands already are instead of having to moving fingers across the controller.

When I was playing street fighter 4 competitive, id go through a brand new controller every month.
Not that I was rough on it, I just use the D pad and charge characters and the 360 controllers would give out and not respond as well. No way in hell would I have paid $130 a controller though
Glad I dont do that shite anymore

It really is. The difference from it and the standard controller that comes with the X Box is night and day.

I've always thought the elite controllers seemed like a scam. What specifically makes it more enjoyable?

I’ll stick with my Razer Wolverine.

Maybe they are, but I like the paddle shifters on them. Never thought I would, but the main thing is how well built they are. It's pretty heavy and feels very well made.

Don’t hold your breath. The first and second generation were incompatible.

I'm so glad I've never experienced these issues with either my first or second generation controllers. They've both worked flawlessly for me for the entire time I've had them.

I use the hair triggers. Why wouldn't you? Setting them to the lowest amount of trigger pull for FPSes is huge.

Thanks to the comments in this post I ordered an elite 2 full version. Looking forward to seeing what it is like.
