Will PS5 backwards compatibility hurt the system?

When the ps3 launched it had backwards compatibility because it had the PS2 components in the console. This however made the console $599 due to the extra components.
Now with the PS5 releasing with backwards compatibility, will it have the same problem? Will it make the system expensive? Will it bottleneck the system to where it hurts it’s performance of PS5 games?
In my opinion I think they should just focus on PS5 games because backwards compatibility won’t do much for the ps4 games. You already can play ps4 games through hdmi and at least 1080p. What improvements would it make to make it a game changer?

It also had a Blu-ray player back when those things were insanely expensive (Sony and all).
So, I think it was more than just the PS2 stuff which, by that point, fit on a single chip. And folks are accumulating huge game libraries. I wouldn't underestimate the draw of the new system playing those games.

Its fine as long as they don't make it the main selling point like Xbone.

The reason backwards compatibility made the PS3 expensive is because it was done with extra hardware. The PS3 could not run PS2 games, so they essentially put extra PS2 specific hardware inside the original PS3 to make it compatible.
The PS4 architecture was highly simplified from the PS3 and brought in line with PC architectures.
It's almost certain PS5 will keep a similar architecture to PS4 and it will play PS4 games natively without any extra hardware involved, so extra cost is a non-issue.

This.
Backwards compatibility had very little to do with PS3 being expensive, it was the blu ray drive. Standalone Blu-ray players when the PS3 came out were WELL in excess of $500, then the PS3 came out and made getting into blu-rays "affordable" (By comparison).
By the time the PS3 rolled around the hardware to be compatible with the PS2 was peanuts by comparison.
PS4 and PS5 are basically computers so keeping backwards compatibility is very easy and is no extra hardware cost really.

It may hurt it in that people will be fine not buying non-top tier PS5 games as they play their backlogs.
There's no way Sony will not have the entire PS4 backwards compatible. The only question is how far back will they let us go imo. PS3 will be the real challenge, but we'll see how it goes.

I highly doubt people are gonna not buy PS5 games because they still have PS4 games to play. Once a new console hits people will buy all the games with it. That's how it works.

That’s exactly how I do it - just got PS4 last Christmas.

The new Xbox is going to be able to play every game ever released on any Xbox system ever so PS5 better be able to at least play PS4 games

Ya it will be cool to play the OG Xbox games. They will probably go up in value once the new system comes out.

I said non-top tier PS5 games. Why in the world would I play a mediocre new game for the sake being new, when I know I still have played fantastic games like Spiderman and Sekiro from the past year or so.
It gets glamourized, but the first year of owning a console usually isn't great. A handful of good games, but several others are just not memorable or worth your time.

Heres an interesting question. I assume TLOU2 will be “remastered” for the PS5. If I just keep my PS4 version, will it “look as good as the PS5” version?

But didn't they solve a lot of that with PSNow technology to stream?
I have a PS3 and will keep it till the wheels fall off.
I believe it's the one that plays PSX discs, but not the PS2. They were all over the place with the various hardware iterations.

No it wont, because the game wouldn't have been optimized for the PS5. The point of a remaster is to show off the new specs of the new console. Playing a ps4 game on a PS5 will still look like a PS4 game, but maybe with slightly faster load times.
