I enjoyed the Super Nintendo Superman game immensely, I would take another one like it...

The world of cardboard speech. The crowning moment of glory for the DCAU when Superman explains to Darkseid why only now he can really cut loose.
Quite possibly the most Superman moment in the last 40 years. Maybe in his history. "I'm always afraid I'll break something. Break someone."

He's too overpowered to make a good video game character IMO

So people want a game where you merely get Clark/Kal El by name but don't actually get the power or the whole idea of the character? I guess different strokes, but that makes no sense imo.
Granted, I like the Marvel UA games, but I always disliked playing the flying characters. It just felt weird that I couldn't go everywhere via flying. That's why superhero games outside of street level heroes were always difficult. It's awkward. Again, maybe it's just me.

Rocksteady games has been working on some super secret project for a while so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with.

DC could definitely cash in on the idea.
No they can't, they can't even cash in on Superman in fricking film.

I think it would be difficult to make a good Superman game but possible. It'd be interesting to have the game revolve around what Superman does most of the time - protect and save people. You could have a game where you're in a GTA style city but the NPC's running around actually need to be proected and you have to consider how much destructive force you use to fight whatever enemy you are facing. Maybe you can even use super speed to move pedestrians out of the way of enemy attacks, where everyone is moving in slow motion but you?
This is from the Flash tv show (I think), but it illustrates my idea:
As the game progresses (and the stakes are raised), the city becomes more and more empty as people evacuate allowing you to use more and more of your power until you are toppling buildings without having to give it too much thought. Or maybe the final act takes place on an alien world where you can let loose there?
The challenge with such a game, though, would be having it not feel like a massive escort mission and deciding on what the stakes are. What happens if you throw Braniac through a sky scraper and it kills thousands of people? Is it game over? Why? Can you get hurt? If so, what can hurt you? There are tons of questions like that which you must come up with somewhat convincing answers for or the whole thing falls apart.

Yeah this is where the "game" part can seriously fall apart. That's why your violent, grounded heroes - Batman - always work better. Plus, you don't have to deal with his power level. Spider-Man works well because he isn't too strong, and his "power" makes for a good game engine - Essentially creatively getting around an environment.

I'm just saying I think it's possible, but very difficult and it would take much more effort than just throwing a Superman mod on top of GTA V, which is what I think most people mean when they say, "I want a good Superman game!" They would have to come up with some interesting gameplay mechanics around actually saving people in a similar way that Rocksteady came up with new gameplay mechanics for Batman fighting multiple enemies at the same time. (And also consequences, which is even harder.)
Another idea I had is what if they made a game that was more like Smallville? I don't mean the exact story but the game could start with Clark as a young boy in Kansas just discovering his powers. As the game's story progresses Clark ages and more abilities are unlocked until the final act has you at max power or near it. I know it's just another version of a "diet Superman" but it would at least make more sense to me than "every bad guy has kryptonite / magic powers."
Of course, if the game was successful, what do you do for a sequel? A publisher is going to want to be able to pump out 3 or 4 titles off the foundation set by the first game.

It's been rumored that the Arkham team is working on a Superman game so you might get your wish.

I think a Superman game in the style of God of War would work. Honestly they could cut out some gore and stick a new skin on it and Kratos is basically Superman. Just make his skills metered and make the game some what linear and I think we’d be sitting on a pretty enjoyable game.

It's tough to do a Superman game since he's so powerful. I'd like to see a new Deadpool game.

I'm a little shocked at the lack of imagination in this thread considering there are so many incredibly overpowered video game characters that could be drawn from.
Also, kryptonite is not Superman's only weakness. Magic can frick him the hell up, he gets weak w/o Earth's yellow sun, red sunlight depowers him, high pitched noise can hurt him due to his super hearing, getting hit by nukes weakens him, he has little defense for psychic and telekinetic attacks, sometimes he can be hurt by large amounts of electricity, and various other high powered characters have the strength to go toe to tow with him.
Any combination of those should be enough to reasonably explain why he can't just punch his way to victory in a video game.

good point.
Deadpool, Ironman, Xmen, Green Arrow, Daredevil, Guardians I think can all be done relatively easily within the confines of gaming worlds as we know them
Superman would be a bit much unless you have him traveling abroad to other planets on a mission away from Earth
Darkseid, Doomsday, Brainiac, Zod, etc....aren't necessarily earth bound villians as they are more or less after Superman in the first place.
