I say paying for EA is way worse.

All you hear, while game is in crap stages is how it's in early release. Then 6 months down, game is still a mess, if the developers haven't bailed on it yet, and it's still in EA phase, what do you expect.

1 year later and game is still a mess and you are shouted down that it's in EA.

And paying for EA is even worse, than being a loot box whale. You give these developers all the reason to put out a non finished game, and then continue to fail.

If you're still preordering games nowadays you deserve to waste your money. It's just a blatantly bad idea at this point.

How about option C? The twenty dlc packs that come out separately as soon as the base game is released.

I have no problems with EA. Usually you can find deals. There are a lot of shite games. You are essentially paying to be in a beta

While I agree in some cases this is egregiously abused in order to rush games out, it's pretty situational. There are plenty of games with very worthy dlc additions. DLC isn't nearly as bad as the first two options, imo.

I'd have to say early access. Its not that its bad as a practice but I think it signals to the industry we will pay for unfinished shite.

It depends on the company doing early access. Could the game be made without early access? If so, bad idea. Is it some small cash strapped group that would never be able to finish the game without some sort of cash influx. Sure, go for it

Loot boxes, early access games are exactly that, early access.

One you know what you are will receive, the other you do not.
