Me and my buddy both bought some A50s at the same time about a year ago, I wasn't satisfied with the sound...a cost vs performance type of deal. I did some research and ordered the Philips setup...I returned my A50s as soon as humanly possible and so did my buddy after he heard my setup.

I've gotten a 7 or 8 people to buy this setup and everyone loves it. Insane that a $100 setup outperforms most $350 gaming sets.

Not $100 anymore.

Just looked and most headsets are $150 or more right now because they are no longer being made. Tried to buy a pair for $60 on eBay but seller refunded me immediately. I dont know what that's about...

From what I read, company that made them went belly up and they aren't being made. Now whatever stock is left and people with used pairs are capitalizing on the reputation and scarcity.

I think you will love them. They have the biggest soundstage out of all the ones posted in here outside of the AKG's. Plus they are relatively easy to drive.

It's a nice step above the HD598.

Insane because it absolutely doesn't, but I would agree that they used to be a steal. But with prices now you might as well upgrade to Philips big daddy Fidelio x2. Then again they have probably shot up as well.

Yeah, the sound stage is great for the money (I paid 40) but I think Carson is talking about more expensive gaming setups not regular headphones. They need an amp badly IMO. When I hook them up to the computer, they sound better than my Xbox. I can't imagine what they'll sound like when I get a better sound card.

I was looking Sennheiser hd 559, 579, audio Technica ath 700x, and the superlux hd668b (cheapest).

$350 is a bit high, I should've said $250 or in that range. The Philips set has a far better sound stage than anything that the major "gaming headset" companies offer. It's embarrassing. Clowns like Astro and Turtle Beach blow all their money on marketing and that is reflected in their absurd pricing.

Sucks Philips is going under, the only other brand I ever really feel comfortable recommending is Sennheiser. The Massdrop set is probably the next "steal of the century" I'll start pimping, it's an unbelievable set for the price. I need another pair of headphones like I need dick cancer, but I almost feel obligated to scoop a set of the 58Xs. No clue why anyone would buy 660s anymore

ETA: does the 58x require modification to fit the BoomPro like the 598s did? you had to use an adapter or modify the lock mechanism for it to work.

correct. I was referring to the dedicated gaming headset companies (TB, Astro, HyperX, SS, etc)

Most of those are ripoffs. Much better off buying quality headphones from reputable companies and fitting them with a mic to game.

That's correct. Sorry, I read that Gibson( the plant that made them is going belly up, not Philips).

Thanks. This will be my first decent set of headphones. I bought a cheap gaming pair a long time ago and have been using them for years.
