It helps that while the larger world is very hit or miss, they did an excellent job with the castle, which is where the nostalgia hits

I've done every area in the base game except (obviously) for the Kiln. Knocking out the DLC first. Just took out the Sanctuary Guardian. Packing it in for the weekend before I get too deep

I knew I could Havel set cheese it if I really got desperate, but I wanted to manage it with my "standard" armor set (wanderer hood, dingy robes, elite knight leggings, elite knight gauntlets). I did swap my normal silver knight shield for a crest for the magic defense. Used wolf ring to be able to poise through some of their hits, a single dose of power within (cba to go grab a second copy just yet), and I believe my standard divine claymore +10. I got close a couple of times with my Zwei +15, but I just wasn't finding the timing as fluid.
Took me ten or so tries (though admittedly the first handful were relearning their damned moveset), but I got it done

ETA: Ten or so times of actually making it down into the abyss. Not counting the failed runs to the abyss, including several in which I fell too far forward and died on that stupid fricking spiral staircase on the way down...

Welp, I just installed and tried to play Dark Souls II: SotFS. I've honestly never seen a worse PC port. All of the menu button prompts are Xbox. Even after I struggled through that and made it in game to change keybinds, I was greeted with the realization that you can only pick keybinds from a list of absurd key combinations, no custom setting to mouse buttons, etc. I started googling to see if I was just missing something, and I start seeing tutorials for assigning actions to random keyboard letters and then setting up autokey scripts. Even better, default controls use double click for some absurd reason, which causes significant input lag for a single click. Fortunately, they added a setting to remove it. Unfortunately, it resets every time you load the game...
So yeah, unfortunately, I bought a key from a reseller, so no refund for me. Maybe one day I'll come back and play it with a controller, but I doubt it. Oh well, $16 lesson learned

Time for DS3
That was the original plan. Then I watched some lore videos so I was familiar with the story and lore of 2, and eventually decided frick it, I'll give it a try.
I'm absolutely still going to play 3 at some point reasonably soon, but I'm currently pretty pissed off as I sit here, so it's going to be a minute until I buy it

Not that anyone gives a shite, but as an update, I realized that the menus were absurdly stupid and split keybinds not by action, but by input device. So mouse binds were separate from keyboard binds, covering the same actions. Unlike mouse binds, keyboard binds let you input the key. So while my extra mouse buttons couldn’t be input, once I realized I could do everything else, that just left two buttons to map, which wasn’t too much of a pain to do through icue.
Still fricking stupid that the on screen button prompts are Xbox prompts…

Braved Horsefrick Valley and solo'd Zallen and Lud last night. Burnt Ivory King next, then on to the endgame.

Nice. I'm patiently waiting on Elden Ring dlc news. In the meantime, I've finished up RDR2 and am halfway through D:OS EE.

Finished up DSII endgame, which was almost embarrassingly easy by comparison to the DLC bosses. On to DSIII. Two bosses down, on to Undead Settlement. Took some getting used to, but I’m enjoying the speed of 3 compared to 2. Still think 1 is my favorite as far as combat speed, but 3 is growing on me. Definitely glad it didn’t mimic 2’s “turn based” style of combat timing.

Celebrating my kid's birthday this weekend, so we played some Just Dance. Probably won't be able to play much else tomorrow.
