Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via the Rockstar Games Launcher), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in 2021. The collection is also coming to Android and iOS devices in 2022.

Rockstar’s collection promises “across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements” for all three games, “while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals.” Rockstar promises more details in the coming weeks, and warns that it will begin removing existing versions of those classic GTA games from digital retailers next week.

While Kotaku can’t confirm what all of those teased remastered titles specifically are, we can confirm via corroborating details from three sources that GTA remasters are currently in the final stages of development.
quote:
All three of these games are being remastered using Unreal Engine and will be a mix of “new and old graphics.” One source who claims to have seen a snippet of the games in action said that the visuals reminded them of a heavily-modded version of a classic GTA title. The UI for the games are being updated too, but will retain the same classic style. No details were shared about gameplay, but Kotaku has been told these remastered titles are trying to stay true to the PS2-era GTA games as much as possible.

Gaming developers are more into touching up old shite than the movie industry. Crazy.

Is it bad that Grand Theft Auto 1 is the only one I have ever been able to enjoy? I absolutely played the shite out of that game.

Consider how expensive new IPs are in the gaming industry and how risk-averse the big boys like EA and Activision are.
At least a remastered GTA whatever has less pretensions about what it is than Battlefield Ghosts Modern Warfare 1942, where they claim to be period-accurate while also adding in female cyborg supersoldiers because the company president's daughter thought it was a good idea.

Are they adding swimming in 3 and Vice City? If not, I see no reason to buy this.

Most remasters are outsourced.

Protagonist in GTA3 didnt even have dialog.
Maybe they will add more to the soundtracks too.

Give me that Vice City with original soundtrack with some added tracks like Nero “Reaching Out.”

No, but you can own properties and stuff in Vice City that actually do things.

Adding dialogue for the playable character in GTA3 would be a nice touch for sure.
Vice City had by far the best soundtrack, but I doubt they still have the rights to all of those songs. If they can't get that entire soundtrack back, no amount of remastering will make this better.

True. Owning properties in Vice City was awesome.
Don't buy any until you have all of the hidden packages though. Or maybe they'll fix that in the remaster.

True. But I'd be lying if I said that I haven't been hoping for these for years...especially Vice City and San Andreas.

That's what I'm hoping for. The original soundtrack with even more music added to each station.
I loved the two talk radio stations on Vice City. They had way more content on the talk stations on VC than they had on any of the GTA games that followed.

No. That would be pretty much a re-make. They will have improved visuals and I'm sure better controls

Very excited for this.

I thought 2 was definitely an improvement, and my second favorite after San Andreas.

That was back when games were fun and they didn’t nickel and dime you or try to lecture you.
