I picked up the game about three weeks ago and have already hit major burnout on it. Looking at the Steam player counts, it looks like it's already a dead game.

Are there any major additions to the game planned to draw people back in, or was it a flash in the pan game?

Probably. That's why Developers pay the big streamers to play their products.

From Steam Dev Update:

"We are still working from home which is going well, but we would be lying if we said we didn’t miss each other’s company. As we expect Iron Gate to grow, we’re looking for a bigger office. Dreamy office spaces sadly don’t grow on trees, but it’s something that we’re really looking forward to so it is definitely worth the wait. Maybe we’ll even make an office tour when we’ve finally found the right place?

Tweaks and fixes to improve your gaming experiences are still being made. For example, this week we released a patch that included a new terrain modification system, and a bugfix that hinders draugrs from spawning inside stones (draugrs shouldn’t be smart enough to use camouflage). Please up-vote or report new bugs that you find here: LINK /.

Some other things that we have worked on are graphical updates to the troll, the second boss, and the third boss to give their old models some new fresh looks, and have their designs better fall in line with how we envision the enemies of Valheim. We won’t spoil the bosses, but here’s the updated troll!

More hair, nails and more defined muscles, what do you think of its updated look? These enemy updates will be available in the next patch!

This does of course not mean that we’ve forgotten about our next big update, Hearth and Home. The Hearth and Home development is moving forward, and we are working on new mechanics and new items that we can’t wait to show off! Below are two little sneak peeks of what we’re currently working on for Hearth and Home:"

This game will go through the same stuff that Rust, minecraft, etc go through

It's really fun for a few weeks but it has a strong burn out. Come back a few months later and rinse and repeat

I'm on the last boss and after I kill him I'm not sure what I'll do besides maybe randomly build shite.

It's an exploration sandbox game. I think their biggest mistake was making the swamplands so grindy. Me and my buddy shouldn't have to make 10 mining runs that take that long to get a set of iron armor

I've killed the last boss and made all the best armor. I'm just waiting for a new biome. I still log in every once in a while and improve my base.

If you like build / survival games then no it isn't overhyped.

You can easily drop 100+ hours into the game and with a low price it is a no brainer purchase.

This isn't some live service play forever game.

It has a tiny development team (5 people) and the game is early access. It needs some boss fight rebalancing and additional tweaks but it has a solid mostly bug free core gameplay.

If sandbox survival isn't your cup of tea, then don't buy it. If you like sandbox survival with no narrative, then you will probably like the game.

It was a decent game, I wish they went for a bit better graphics. I think it did get too much attention because of big streamers/youtubers playing it. That died down pretty quick though.

It died down because it is a game you finish. Once the bosses are all killed, no reason to continue.

I would imagine a speed run killing the bosses is fairly fast if you know the map. Too many ways to easily cheese the boss fights where you don't need max equipment.

I think they need to make the boss mechanics a bit tougher and add more quality of life tweaks. equipment slots should be separated from inventory. Should be able to craft a bigger better backpack. Bigger chests. Better and easier snapping points while building.

My biggest beef is the damn hoe. Make the fracking thing work better. I bet they lose tons of players because it is near impossible to build on flat ground and make everything nice and symmetrical. With zero narrative, base building needs to be a bit more robust.

Having said that, I've played 150 hours. Tremendous value for what I paid. With 7 million copies sold, they can hire some additional folks to keep working on the game or take the money and run. lol.

Yeah, I don't know about overhyped. I got well over $20 worth of entertainment out of it, and I'll probably pick it up again after a content patch or two. I really enjoyed it until I "finished" the game. Once you get a few sets of late game equipment and nothing can really tough you, it loses that "living on the edge" feeling that was a big hook for me.
