If people will pay it…

People paid about $80 for third party games when the N64 came out. It was also somewhat common for certain first party games on the Genesis and SNES to be in that neighborhood, especially RPGs like the Final Fantasy games and Phantasy Star games.

$90 for some physical games?

Is that just for first party titles or all Switch games?

After that joke of a Direct, Nintendo can frick right off if they are charging $80 - $90 for objectively inferior ports of microtransaction riddled triple A games.

At least Nintendo games usually aren't loaded down with DLC. I would pay $100 for some games if it meant no microtransactions. There's nothing in that Direct though that looked like it'd be worth over $60

That is ridiculous. No DQ12. no new Zelda. I am not impressed.

I am not paying $60 to $90 for a clearer HD view of an identical Zelda game I already paid $60 for on Switch1.

I am old school fuddy duddy; but parents will pay that for off road mario cart so spoiled kids can play with 5 friends.

I played the original mario kart and off road seems strange...

Elden Ring and a few others look good but not at that price.

The My Nintendo Store preregister is really good to beat the scalpers - have to pay for Nintendo Online + have 50 hrs of playtime.

It looks like 2 subscriptions to play old school and Zelda games.

Another GameCube pass subscription? How much total?

I'm hoping the switch 2 edition upgrades do not cost this much. I'm confident we'll get a new Mario reveal in September for the 40th anniversary and I think they'll do big things for Zelda next year.

I agree none of these seem like system drivers. I'm looking at it as an upgrade and I'll still get to play all my old games with some new features. I am excited about that DK game. I've never played a Hyrule warriors game but I them beat 'em ups and hack and slash games.

It's the NSO expansion membership. Not the basic one. It's just one sub for all of that.

I’ve had this for years and we’ve paid some classic games. I don’t know if we’ve paid 50 hours though. Is that the sole criteria for 50 hours, Or is the 50 hours only playing multi player stuff? I don’t let my kids play online multiplayer.

I'm definitely with you there. It's more than I wanted to spend on a new switch and I generally wait until a lot of the first party games go on sale before I buy them. That usually takes a while though. Gamechat, discord....lol yeah that's neat and all but I don't care about that.

You can get double the storage for like $20 extra on the open market

So long as it's Micro SD Express. Previous Micro SD iterations won't work.

So it's a console with kids features, that has kids games, and costs 449 + 90 each game?

Nintendo has lost their fricking minds. This is giving wii-u vibes.

It's 50 hrs playtime combined with any game - online or offline. If you go to your profile, your Switch tracks how many hours you spent playing each game. So as long as you've spent 50 hrs playing games on the Switch, you should be ok.

Just finished working my way through.

Pretty solid direct. Getting MK, DK + Metroid in the first few months is great.

3rd party support continues from the Switch time. Nintendo will be fine, and people will pay it. I don't get to play as much as I used to anymore, but I'm still going to be in for Day 1, and grab the good Nintendo stuff.

The Switch is arguably one of the most successful platforms in VG history. The Switch 2 is much more than an iterative improvement.

You're welcome to your own opinion about the S2, but I think you'll likely be very lonely on that street corner as you prophesy its demise.
