The Civ 5 thread has picqued my interest.
What would the gaming board suggest ? One of the many Total Wars (I did play Rome total war original but sadly never finished a campaign) , Civ 5, or are there any other real time strategy games that I should look at?

First, I think you should clarify which one you would like

I have never played Civ, but I have played Rome total war.
So whatever style that is

Rome: Total War is a mixture of both turn-based and real-time. You have a turn based strategic overview and once combat is initiated, you switch to real-time command over the units. Civ is totally turn-based where combat takes place in the overview without commanding individual units in combat.

Okay yeah that makes sense. I wasn't thinking about the battle.

Going to look at either Civ 5 or Empire: Total War I believe.

It's definitely different strokes for different folks. Civ is a personal favorite of mine and combat has some depth in V with the grid based system so it isn't all city management.

Yeah I like how Civ goes on over the course of a much longer period of time.

Civ is amazing but just be warned: when you play, time flies! I've sunk so many hours into that game.
Keep an eye out for sales. You can get the basic game for 75% right now but sometimes they have the Complete Edition for 75% off as well. Check this site for sales LINK

Maybe a bad comparison but I tell people that civ is like the board game Risk on steroids. If thats what u want then get civ.

If you like space type games, I really enjoyed Sins of a Solar Empire. When Homeworld Remastered comes out in the fall it well be a must buy as well.

I hear Final Fantasy Tactics is good.
