Trying to decide between a Nintendo 2DS or 3DS.

Other than the 2DS obviously not being 3D, is there are other notable differences between the two? I have no desire to play a game in 3D.

The more important different is that one is kindle shaped and the other has the clamshell design. Which do you prefer?

3DS XL and no other choice.
YOU WILL WANT THE ABILITY TO PIVOT THE SCREEN.

In my experience, the 3d is a hinderance and I typically turn it off, so that shouldn't be a factor.
That said the 3ds XL is worth it on screen size alone.

Ive never really wanted a ds except to play ocarina of time without having to dig out my n64,but i feel like spending some money on something. Any other games that would make it worth it. The last pokemon game i played was yellow and may enjoy a new one for nostalgia sake.

though
I did play with a 3ds when the first one came out and had a headache within five mintues, playing in 3d would make me go blind

I leave on the very lowest 3D setting because some games actually use it well.
A Link Between Worlds was one of those games.

I didn't care about the 3d effect just the titles...
the 3d effect is so awesome...and the titles for it
Link Between worlds, ocarina of time, super Mario 3d land
all incredible.

I like the articulating design of my xl. Screen size is nice especially for something that will slip into a pocket. I leave the 3d at the highest setting and it usually doesn't bother me unless I am moving my hands a lot. loving pokemon x and mario and luigi dream team.

Ocarina uses it exceptionally well. Took me a few days to adjust, but I can't play without the 3d. I love it

I would go with one of the 3DS XL combo packs that comes with a game.
Target was selling them for $150 before Christmas so its possible you might be able to find that deal elsewhere if you really hunt around.
I think being able to close the 3DS XL (to prevent screen scratching) and its screen size gives it a huge advantage over the 2DS.
here is are a couple of basic youtube comparison videos between the current DS iterations. LINK and LINK
However, if you are going to be a casual DS gamer and only get a few games it may be better to get the 2DS.
also, the I would avoid the original 3DS since the XL and 2DS versions have better battery life and come with a bigger memory card.

I didn't think I cared about the 3D either, but both Super Mario 3D Land and Zelda: ALBW use it very well.
I still turn it off if my eyes are getting tired but it adds to the experience in ways I wasn't expecting.
I have the 3DS XL and I really like that I can close it and therefore protect the screens. I also have fairly big hands and the regular size 3DS felt uncomfortable to me. I don't know which model the 2DS more closely matches control-wise, but that's something to think about.

You can download games digitally right? How much space does a game typically take up. I would prefer to have all digitally copies. The 3ds xl comes with a 4 gig memory card right? Would that be enough for 3 or 4 games?

Yep.

It varies wildly. Haven't seen many over a GB.

Every release is not on there and the prices are awful. So, I'd only go new, popular games from eShop.

If you plan to go all digital or majority digital, go ahead and buy a 16GB (at least). You shouldn't have any trouble unless you start getting close to 40 games. 4GB would be enough for 3-4 games though.

Yes, but for some reason I enjoy collecting 3DS cases. They are stuck in my closet but are like a little card collection, sort of like Dexter's blood slides.
..and believe me, I'm a huge fan of digital media besides that.

2DS's are for 4 year olds that will break a 3DS. Go for 3DS XL no question.

I've got a 2ds and like it.
It's not as comfortable to hold and game for extended periods of time on as a 3ds, but I wouldn't say its uncomfortable either

Not even an option.
3DS over the stationary screen of the 2DS. IMO spend the extra monies on a XL.
