Wow, never heard this take before.
Went to the lighthouse 3 times this weekend. On all 3 classes. Me and the two guys I run with have all 3. Hunter Bladedancer consistently has the best K/D for all 3 of us. We actually stagger our Hunters so we can try and get one for each Lighthouse run.
Bladedancer has Blink, Quickdraw, Arcbolt Grenade, Backstab, Hungering Blade. 5 of the best PVP perks in the game.
Quickdraw is the greatest PVP perk in the Game IMO. Helps winning gunfights so much. It does not stack though, so if you already have it on a gun be aware of that.

I think he's PS4? Anyways, I'm pretty good at PvP but this whole trials thing has exposed me to the fact that there is another echelon of skill

Well regular PVP matches you with guys on your level for the most part. Trials does not, it is random. And most of the scrubs don't take part.

The player base is larger on Destiny for PS4, so there will be more good players and more bad players.
That is so hard to compare. Last Gen maybe you can say that since most FPS heavy gamers had a 360, but it really isn't the case this gen.
Just so you know I played COD on 360
