impossible to rank this game until time has passed, but it's immediately in the conversation as GOAT.
biggest wow factor I've had since I saw Mario 64. the concept of 3d games is something I had never even considered because I was a kid, so that excitement I got when I played Mario 64 for the first time was nuts...this comes close to matching that feeling.

you're kind of connecting dots. I talked to everyone read every monument and did the divine beast related to mipha, and I don't recall anything about them being engaged...or that link would then become the zora king.
in fact it is a lot like TP and OoT so far for me in that it's ambiguous for whom link has affection. in TP it's good because it's midna IMO even though it isn't stated here, but you spent the whole game with midna

finding the korok seeds in the open world is so much fun
the little puzzles everywhere are really a nice touch.

yeah, i'm not super into it, but I'll come across something that catches my attention, like a giant rock chained to a well...or shrines with apples and couple are missing or a block missing from what you would otherwise dismiss as window dressing for the world
it's pretty clever, but it's not something I set out to do...hunt them so to speak. but it's nice to come across them.

Zelda herself is completely irrelevant in that game. I don't think she really affects the plot anything considerably to be honest.

which furthers what i'm saying. midna conveys the emotion, but link doesn't, and Zelda and link never have anything going on in terms of even knowing each other
but in OoT
link grew up with saria (but things would've gotten weird when he grew older and wasn't a little kid and she remained one
)
the zora princess and the gerudo chick all express emotional feelings for link and i'm just going to assume Zelda does as well

Agreed.
It's been great, but i likely won't be able to place it until a second playthrough 6 or so months down the road.

at this stage it's definitely in the GOAT running. it's that good but the greatest games have resonance
the only game on the last 2 gens with big time resonance for me was Arkham asylum because beat em ups never really made the 3d transition...or at least successfully.
post n64 here are the games that resonate with me, you know the indescribable feeling when you're playing a great game
FF10
GTA3
Arkham Asylum and City
Last of Us
Metroid Prime
BOTW
and FF10 and Last of US nailed the immersion but not simple and fun gameplay mechanics like climbing in BOTW or FP platforming in Metroid prime or the final fight beat em up system in the Arkham series (which btw had never been done successfully since the jump to 3d IMO. anyone remember final fight on ps2
)but then again no game has made the emotional impact with their story the way The Last of Us did...and it's probably still the best voice acting and motion capture ever in video games.

Lol i thought we were talking GOAT Zelda games.
It's a great game, but I can't rank it over OoT or MM yet. Granted, I play both of those almost annually.

Really want to get started, but I'll prob finish Nier first.
I don't think this game can do anything to put it above OoT and MM for me tbh

I'm one of those that thinks MM is the greatest in the series and it's probably my favorite game of all time w/ Kingdom Hearts being a close second.
I will say this though, this game is VERY good and very entertaining.
I'm only like 20 hours in though.

MM's world and side quests are unconquerable for me, though I greatly preferred ocarinas dungeons. So I'm torn and can't pick a favorite
Glad to see so many of y'all are enjoying it

Are you gathering this just from the early Zora domain cutscenes? I thought it seemed like Link didn't necessarily consider her a romantic interest, she just loved him. I don't know that he had accepted her proposal. Unless, of course, there are later cutscenes that show this.
Okay so here goes. If you've played the game, you already know the content of the cutscenes. However, the only part of the game that really has shaky evidence is the one cutscene where the Champions are gathered together and the calamity starts as they are talking. Mipha suggests (in my educated opinion) that one way to calm herself is to think about Link. Now THAT is the only thing that really I would have to guess on. HOWEVER, the next stuff is straight canon.
There are a couple of tablets near east reservoir lake that really tell the story. King Dorphan writes that Mipha was a very headstrong and curious girl. Her budding friendship with the divine beast Vah Ruta along with being childhood friends with link essentially got her to be crowned champion. Along with the fact she wielded the light scale trident like no other Zora or man for that instance.
The king writes that he regrets ever letting her explore her curiosity and becoming the pilot of the divine beast.
The Zora armor in this game is given to the male who the princess of the Zoras deems to be the most fit to be their husband/wed. Not only that, but he was actually caught in a bit of a love triangle 100 years ago between another Zora of whom called him "Linny" back then.
I forget her name but she claimed that she asked Link 100 years ago to choose between her and Mipha. Telling ya man. It's super sad.
In just a little bit, I'll explain why Breath of the Wild may end up being like another OoT, in the fact that it could have split timelines.

Like I said I can't say right now. It's too fresh and exciting

I think this exceeds Termina. The villagers have schedules again which vary often in accordance to the weather. They do feel much more real than they have in any Zelda in quite some time (although Midna, Groose, and SS Zelda were solid). It is an incredible living breathing world where you're invested in those around you. You really want to save Zelda and the people of Hyrule like you did in Termina.
And yes I do think they should return to Termina in the sequel, because you're not going to top the scale of this Hyrule. I don't know if any game ever will. It's that impressive. It's seemingly taken the open world as far as it can go without it being cumbersome.

I'm dying to come look through this thread but not having a Switch yet I don't want to spoil anything goddammit.

So the motion control shrines aren't so bad after all.
Just beat the "putt putt golf" one and got a Great Frostblade.
