There's also one by skull lake...his bow has some serious range
I thought he was missing me because I had climbed a long ways up and was obstructed from his view...then the fire arrow came down on top of my head

so I spent an hour last night trying to make my way to a shrine in the middle of the water. Along the way, I found another shrine (after 15 minutes of trying to climb a cliff). The first one I made it into (at the top of the cliff) was a medium combat trial that I gave up on after a good 20 minutes of failing. Finally float my happy arse to the shrine in the water only to find that it's a hard combat trial. I promptly logged out in frustration

I beat that one last night. Go to the island behind that trial
It's awesome

Found these same two last night.

I've still barely moved the story along.

Just beat my 2nd Divine beast last night (Gerudo). Boss in that place was fricking me up. Gotta get the timing down on dodges so you can do the QTE attack after. Then he is cake.

I did the same thing last night with those two shrines. I think my favorite thing to do is paraglide off of mountains and feel like I made it somewhere I wasn't suppose to be. I found a shrine in the middle of a lake with the flying/swimming dragon like figure above it. It is a shrine where you have to blow up a ceiling. I actually came up with a way to do it only to realize I probably need a hookshot to complete the level once I blew it up.

the first thing both of you should do when you play again is
GO TO THE ISLAND BEHIND THOSE 2 SHRINES
anyone ever seen that movie castaway?

I'm not sure which island you're talking about to be honest. Then again I didn't look much passed there. I know that the only way to access the shrine in the middle of the water was from jumping from the cliff shrine and I was hyper-focused on that mission alone. I did talk to a bard bird nearby that said something about some coordinates

so there's a shrine on the edge of a cliff. if you glide straight off there's a shrine in the middle of the water. behind the shrine in the water is an island. there's a boat by the shrine to get to it...once you reach it, something happens, and it's pretty awesome.

Do I eventually get some ability to make boats move? I seem them run aground and docked. But nothing happens when I get on them.

probably have to use a Korok leaf to create a gust of wind.

I'm thinking we are in the fallen hero timeline but that's just me.
This is my feeling too, because it just fits too well after Zelda 2... They prevented the resurrection and the hero left/died, and then the resurrection happened anyway. Seems really to fit with the story the King tells you when you leave the plateau.
But people are convinced it is the Child/victory timeline because Zelda makes a comment about Twilight that seems to imply the game comes sometime after TP.
Either way, it is the game that is farthest-out timewise from the split-up at OOT IMO, in either the child or downfall timeline.

the korok leaf...there's usually one by any boat, but if you need one start chopping down trees and you'll get one pretty soon.

Hyrule was flooded in the adult timeline (Wind Waker, PH, Spirit Tracks) and eventually everyone leaves it behind so I doubt it's from that one.
Well, when you pick up rock salt though, it mentions it's a remanent of the ancient ocean across Hyrule. There's also the Koroks and Rito which were only on the Wind Walker timeline before now.

yeah, but the sheikah weren't in wind waker. they'd be extinct or evolved, but certain design elements have me leaning towards wind waker
ritos (and the remixed dragon roost island music from windwaker that plays in their village)
koroks (anyone notice "saria lake" in the lost woods. nice callback to ocarina)
the blue tunic is very similar to the outfit link has on outset island.
there's a flooded quality to central hyrule with ponds, lakes and swamps

we're talking timeline now which I feel like will inevitably lead to someone posting story spoilers

The Sheikah were around for Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword, so I don't think that's a point against Wind Walker. Also, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't there only one Sheikah in Teilight Princess? She was old and said she was the last of them.

I saw a theory that this game re-merges all the timelines... Sure does feel that way
