I'm surprised you didn't somehow work the SJW-ness of the latest start wars movies into this post.

This was one of the worst video game stories I've ever played through.

And jackasses screaming "oh just because it's not what you wanted it to be" on reddit are fricking idiots.

That's really a stupid meme considering that Joel killed her dad, and I'm not going to take the time to describe the other nuances of Abby's development to someone who didn't play the game...

Her dad was going to kill Ellie without her consent for a cure that wouldn’t have done anything to save humanity. Probably would have been used to elevate the Fireflies and weaponized to make them The foremost force in this world.

This is entirely speculative and not founded in any of the games information. Joel's act to save Ellie was a totally selfish one. Abby killing him was a comeuppance for his sins.

This wasn’t said at the time the decision to kill her was being made, so it doesn’t count as consent. Also doesn’t make Abby’s dad not a monster for going through with killing a young girl for the possibility of a cure.

And wasn’t that possibility under 100% anyway? There were audio logs showing they had tried this type of surgery before and it didn’t work out.

Basically this dude wanted to use human sacrifice of a little girl for the slight chance of gaining a cure that couldn’t even be widely circulated anyway, and I’m supposed to emphasize with that decision? Joel did what any dad would do in that situation and he got her out of there.

Sacrificing 1 to save countless lives in a post apocalyptic world? Tough argument to make him a "monster".

Joel's decision was a totally selfish one. I mean, you're arguing the ending of TLOU1 at this point.

Again, it was a chance to get a cure that wasn’t 100%. They were batting .000 on the previous sacrifices, why was this sacrifice of Ellie going to be any different?

And if humanity is at the point where we are going to just start killing innocent children without them understanding the situation until we find a cure that we may never be able to actually distribute, is that a human race worth saving anyway?

Of course, it’s the decision a father would make when his child was about to be sacrificed without their consent and without proof that it would yield any actual benefit.

It's been a while since I've played the original, but wasn't Ellie "different"?

She was the only one with a true immunity to the fungus, right?

You don’t have to play the game to realize this. You also don’t have to play the game to realize that the story is not very good in the eyes of the majority.

the majority of the people leaving the negative reviews didn't even play the game...

The ending isn't great. I agree with that, but this is far from "the worst game in history" as the internet wants one to believe.

Some of it is pure trolling yes. I think the real audience score sits at a 5/10 for those who had genuine interest in that series. The problem is....the plot made the first one what is was. So it is what we expected in the second. It is not what we got.

Maybe the bar was set too high and the game was destined to fail from our own doing.

4/10 for me. Better mechanics but story was fricking awful.
