I think Borderlands' art style affords suspension of disbelief. Even with Destiny, shooting an alien 47 times in the face is at least somewhat believable due to a armor and energy shields.
With this, random street thugs will take multiple head shots and grenades to the face. It's a pill that's a bit harder to swallow.
Coming from Destiny I had an issue with it as well, but I've gotten over the hump. That will always be one nitpick for me though. If you want me shooting a human street thug in a beanie in the face then he should die 100 percent of the time and anytime that doesn't happen it's going to be annoying.
Regardless, I had fun playing the game last night.

I'm guessing most of the people that have an issue with bullet sponges don't have much of a MMO background. Boss fights can last an hour in those games.

I appreciate the challenge honestly. You have to communicate and have a good team to pull a hard level mission off.

I had a good time playing last night but only got about an hour in before booted off for maintenance. Got to level 4. I t feels like I might enjoy this more than Destiny. I like the tactical aspect of it.

Almost 16, just finished out Time Square area minus the power relay mission which I'll do after lunch.

This. I was watching Gothalion playing this. He is level 30. Normal enemies take 1/2 to 3/4 of a mag from his level 30 weapon to down. I find that completely unacceptable. You shouldn't have to reload after killing one low level enemy. Especially not in a game world that is supposedly set to somewhat realistic standards. I am still on the fence about buying it but I don't know if I can get over it.
In Ghost Recon, when you shoot someone in the face, they die.

I'm an avid endgame FF14 player. Fantasy bosses, much more believable in being a bullet sponge than a normal looking person wearing a toboggan running through the streets of NYC.

I enjoy this as well. You have to have good map awareness. Granted, you can tank some missions and situations, but for the more challenging ones it was evident you had to move around and try and get good coverage on the enemies.

This is absolutely the dumbest critique for this game and all of you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Sorry for being more picky than you? I'm enjoying the game and I'm over it. It was what made me skeptical to begin with. I played for several hours last night and will probably play for 5-6 hours tonight.
You should be ashamed of yourself for sucking a game's dick so hard that other people's opinions about gameplay offend you.
ETA: I like the game. The enemies tanking rounds hasn't ruined it for me at all, it's just somewhat annoying more than anything else.

They were upfront about the fact that this was an RPG. So why does realism throw this off for you? If they made their hats glow or gave them different names like "Badass Beserker Street Thug", would it be more acceptable?
We've been reading this bullet sponge gripe since the closed beta and it's just stupid. They have a health bar. Higher level enemies are harder to kill, lower level not so much. It's just so standard, and the fact that this rubs people the wrong way blows my mind. You're buying into a game that doesn't lend itself to the run-and-gun instant drop style that most shooters have now. It wouldn't work. Tactics kind of go out the window if I can drop someone with a ricochet tranquilizer dart.

I think this is the dumbest critique of a critique for the game.

And I get that and it makes sense. I honestly believe that if they made it where it was one shot head kills then it's would be dumb as frick. I'm just saying going in fresh, without playing the Beta or reading much into the game beforehand, it's somewhat annoying and irked me. After about an hour though I got over it.
I'm enjoying the hell out of the game, I'm just saying I can see where it may turn off some players.

Special enough to tank 1,000 bullets and survive?
Posted on 3/10/16 at 12:10 pm to McCaigBro69
It's a definite adjustment for anyone not used to an RPG or had other expectations for what this game was going to be about.
The flip side of it taking more work to drop someone is that you take longer to drop as well.

Depends on your build.

At this point I think it is more appropriate to critique the art style choice more than the gameplay.
