I have been trying to not outlevel my friends so we can all go in to the darkzone together.
How does that work?

I don't know honestly. I haven't seen any reviews yet and I usually buy a game after reading multiple reviews and watching gameplay videos. I've seen some gameplay but none that point out the game's weaknesses.
Get it man. Trust me, you won't regret it.
It has aspects of the batman games, borderlands, farcry, destiny, and mass effect in it.
I'd say it's biggest weakness is its endgame material right now. But the DLC coming out soon should address that.

Is there a lot of RNG? How much customization is there and how big is the open world?
There's no decoding engrams like in destiny and not sure if the bosses drop different loot. Guessing they do so you can farm the boss for various gear
The map is big enough that fast travel feels necessary sometimes. Another plus is loading screens are few and far between.

For those that don't know, if you fail an encounter. It resets the next day, guessing whenever server reset is.

Downloading currently. Got on and saw 5 of my good friends playing it. Decided if they are playing it I will like it

Kowalinski in the department store is a real a-hole

Am I the only one who just really isn't feeling this game?
I'm level 17. I've done everything there is to do in the areas up to the level 15 level bracket.
It is just extremely repetitive. Playing with friends is fun, but that is true for most games really.
I see this game the same way I saw the first Assassin's Creed- revolutionary in so many ways, but failed in actual gameplay. Repetitive because it was the only way they could do it after spending so much dev time on "the system"
Regardless I'm gonna finish the game and play some of the endgame, but all in all I think I would call this a swing and a miss.

They break the darkzone by level, so you don't run in to a bunch of people that would just destroy you. Like 1-14 have their own darkzone and lvl 30's have their own.

This game hits a lot of checkmarks for games that I really enjoy and I really love it. It is definitely more fun with friends.
I've also heard that the game gets really good once you can start to get in to all of the end game stuff.

Nah. This style of game isn't for everyone

The side missions are repetitive but the story missions are pretty unique, and intense
Each zone feels and looks different.

Yeah, I agree, but there aren't too many of those. If I didn't have to stop to play [repetitive] side missions to level up so I don't get dumped on, I could easily clear all of the story missions in ~8 hours.

Are the servers down right now?

I equipped the talent that gives 30 ammo if you kill someone with your sidearm, to force me to use it more.
Pretty fun, I recommend

Ran through the dark zone for the first time with some guys, does it seem like the DZ level goes up faster than in the beta got to level 9 in like no time.

Does DZ level matter for anything other than gear? Your normal level is what decides difficulty right?

Not that I have seen

Got the game yesterday. Am a level 10. Started DZ today. Found a case that was level 30 in the DZ1.
