Tactics and FF 12 have by far the best Espers in FF and are the two wholly unique to them

If you haven’t played tactics this is a bit of a spoiler. You could call the inevitable cosmic final bad ending all JRPGs in FF tactics after it’s been such a political game. So be warned,

The espers are actually sort of demi gods made up the group of “gods” who give ash’s dad the nethecite setting in motion FF12. But tactics is set long before hjust also in Ivalice so they’re evolving and their lore is insane. Ofc they are punished for their rebellion so if you notice in FF12 every single esper you get either story or optional (most) are all in prisoner or made skaves in some way?

There are 13 espers in 12 (your summons after you beat them in battle and the major villains of tactics) NONE share any iconography with any of the other games summons, except maybe what they believed was the highest at 12 ultimate in tactics, until Zodiarc is shown to exist in FF 12

I mean I’ve only gotten my third one yet I cheesed one optional but look at the fury this guy unleashes on a small flan for a hunt rofl

If you haven’t played the game and want to how limits work I do one right after the summon ends Youll see me pick mist from the menu and all my characters had 3 max charges sowhen it opens you can see their names and 1 2 3 beside them and you pick them one after if another. If it runs out or no one has mist left you can roll it again hoping to mist charge someone so you want to build long combos the best is 3 1 mist hits 3 2 mist snd 3 3 mits hits

FF12 has never clicked for me at all. Ive tried multiple times because it is so well acclaimed, but I just don’t get it. I’ve played until near the end at least twice and have never been compelled to finish it.

Combat sucks. Sound mixing is weird as hell (characters sound like they are speaking inside of a trash can). Some cool cgi scenes but that is about the only thing that stands out for me.

There are some definite issues with it. Like it’s got the worst dungeon some mandatory much more not in FF history it’s a tower with like 99 floors and 3 basements.

The combat can feel MMOish but you have preset gambits for each character how to act. An easy one for your white mage Any ally Hp >40% use Cure. Foe weak to fire use fira etc.

It gets way more complex than that, every character can eventually get two jobs and you just buy licenses for anything including gambits which max at 12. If you watch the video when you press X the wait screen comes up and you have 5 options usually attack auto, magic and techs you know, Mist skills, turning gambits off, and items. So it’s it extremely free wheel for most things but can be very intense for bosses. The game has a ton of them and many are very hard, like the optional espers some are frick insane.

It also has a lot of rng in chest but you can rig a lot of that. It’s a weird game but totally fun and say get into it. I’d use a guide though. IMO jegged is best covers literally all its quirks

If you’re a big tactics fan like me it’s kind of Shaunfreah to see the enemy from that came become your slave like Yunas are. I love the Ivalice lore

You can also set the game to 2x or 4x speed what I was playing on above

You can go in the gambit menu like i do here each can have three sets and you can see me turn individua ones i use for boss like haste all but no mobs off, then I show the license board and what the upgrade progressions looks like. I think its really good but you gotta use 2x or 4x when not fighting a tough boss the game is harder sped up

I've only played the original FF12 on PS2, not the Zodiac Age version. Original does not have the jobs system, not sure of any other differences though.

The game was damn near unbearable on ps2. The option to toggle all speed at 2x or 4x is a good send with one button. Way too much slow walking in the OG.

And he’s zodiac age is an American release of the IZJS where they didn’t all share one license board like all did in 12. Now you pick a job that’s your board and shortly into the game all can get another

I beat Zodiac a few years back. I enjoyed it and thought the battle system was great but the story was super weak, pretty much a Star Wars re-tread. Also, the overworld map was pretty boring. Nothing worse than miles and miles of desert

The entire mechanical set up of that game from the rng with best gear locations, 2 of the worst dungeons in FF history, and getting used to its combat it isn’t to get into.

It has a lot of amassing stuff too and some of the most difficult fights ever in FF. It’s not one I can play often but I like it. A lot more than 15 even though 15s story was better with immense unused potential to boot

I also think it’s just super neat the Ivalice games are the only 2 main line game that used completely new summons never seen elsewhere. Btw play tactics everyone if you haven’t

That video just proved for me that I still hate FF12's gameplay.
