Part of it is that we haven't gotten a good Final Fantasy game since 10. Makes people nostalgic.
As for Smash, Cloud is already in the game. Sephiroth makes sense as a counterpart to him.

At this point, Cloud needs to issue a restraining order. Sephiroth is altering timelines and hopping franchises to pester the poor guy at this point.
And going back to nostalgia, I feel like I’ve become more critical of their characterization as I’ve gotten older. Both characters are peak mid-90s angst. Lol. I think only squall tops them in surliness and edginess.

Fair enough. I'm not sure why Cloud was in Smash 4, but that inclusion is the reason he's in Ultimate. They promised to bring back all former fighters.

Sephiroth's victory screen is awesome.
Download is December 23rd, but you can get Sephiroth early if you face him on Very Hard mode right now.

Beat it in normal and unlocked him.
Cool idea, nonetheless. You also get the music and stage upon unlock.
Still a lame arse selection but the rights for their music seem to be tough to secure. They got jenova, which is the only extra I felt was essential.

You only have to beat him on easy. Was thinking you had to beat him on Very Hard, but decided to practice on the Easy Mode.... and that’s all you have to do to unlock him.

His neutral B move is fricking sick. Don’t want to go anywhere near him when he’s doing that. I think they need to remove the free cancellation of that move.

Sakurai originally planned for Rex and Pyra to be a fighter in Ultimate but they didn't have enough time to complete the characters. But they instead just took out the swordfighter and included the swords themselves. So he mixed it up with Pyra and Mythra being characters on their own.

Apparently Rex was planned to be in the game with Pyra and Mythra switching between and were going to be Ice Climber like characters, but it turned out it became so complex it started crashing the game in 8 player Smash. So they scrapped Rex and just did Pyra and Mythra.

Pyra/Mythra are solid. Recovery is terrible on both, but Mythra rivals Fox and Shiek for speed.

so I have a confession...I've played a lot of mario games during my time, including the Karts and Parties over the years....but I never played Smash.
I got the Switch version about a year ago, tried it for 5 minutes, didn't know what the frick I was doing, and hadn't picked it up since. I decided to give it another shot the other day....same deal.
I just don't get it and can't figure out what the hell to do lol
