This comes out on Tuesday and it's gotten pretty spectacular reviews.

https://www.metacritic.com/game/star-wars-galactic-racer/

Racing games aren't normally my jam, not really a genre I've ever been into but this one is right up my alley. From when they first revealed it, it looked like the type of racing game I would dig.

My favorite racing franchise of all time is easily F-Zero, I love high speed, actiony, aracady type racers that are very challenging single player experiences, and those have largely fallen by the wayside. The racing game landscape is pretty much just Mario Kart and a bunch of "realistic" sim type racers (Gran Turismo, Forza, etc.) which I have no interest in at all.

This one they pretty much went all in on making an arcade type racer, the single player campaign is actually the main focus and draw of the game and is apparently quite robust and partially rogue-like each run is somewhat random in terms of your options and you're expected to try and fail quite a lot as you progress and unlock things. It's been described as an old school throwback, a video game video game, which is exactly what I want.

Another good thing IMO is that they just use the Star Wars universe as just the backdrop for the racing league. They actually made a point in the advertising to let you know this has nothing to do with jedi or lightsabers or the force or any of that shite.

There's of course online multiplayer too which a ton of people will get into, but as someone who mostly wants a single player experience, finding a racing game that caters to that is rare.

I mean if you don't like racing games period it's gonna be a non starter. The reviews are all glowing so they clearly did something right for people who want this type of game.

I cannot wait to play this. I’ve been itching for something like this since Star Wars episode 1 racer which hit like crack to my 12 year old self. The reviews I’ve seen on it have been universally positive. The rogue-like elements are intriguing to me and a wrinkle in the traditional racing genre. This might be a day one buy for me. It currently has a respectable 88 on metacritic. The highlighted reviews below are pretty glowing.

I just watched some gameplay footage.

Do you want to have a conversation about your pretty lofty standards or the fact that you just felt like bitching about something?

That was all preview info we got where EA deliberately misled people about what the game was. Even Matty was hoodwinked, was absolutely over the moon about Veilguard after his initial play session.

I made it a minute. This is the most generic thing i've ever seen, what is the skill required here, there's not even obstacles.
