And five more Dragon Quest games
Square Enix has announced the latest mainline entry in the Dragon Quest series. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate was revealed on a livestream to celebrate the series’ 35th anniversary. Not much beyond the game’s logo and title was revealed, but series creator Yuji Horii hinted at some changes to the traditional turn-based battle system, and said Square Enix was aiming for a simultaneous worldwide release.
Dragon Quest is the most popular RPG series in Japan. The last game, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, was released for the PlayStation 4 and 3DS in its home market in 2017, though the original Western release only came to the PS4 and PC. An updated version, Dragon Quest XI S, was released for the Nintendo Switch and later came to Xbox, PS4, PC, and Stadia. In total, Square Enix has shipped more than six million copies of Dragon Quest XI worldwide.

The Dragon Warrior games for the NES gave me the bug early in life. I tried playing one of the newer ones on my phone and while nostalgic and entertaining, it's just too cartoony now to get me immersed.
I think I just preferred the old pixel art style as odd as that sounds

I used to feel certain games were juvenile cartoony as well. Ni nu kuni & the most recent DQ and DQ11 all seem this way but lag in the beginning then get amazing.
I don't like Octopath Traveler 2D type games. Tales of Vesperia is the only 2D I enjoyed. PS has others like Vesperia not available on switch
Take DQ Builders2-- in the beginning it was big time cartoony juvenile and seemed cheap. You are on a boat with cartoony juvenile graphics and it seems cheap as hell. Then it gets better after you get on the island.
It blew my mind that it improved into a very cool RPG game.

I love the blueprints for building. Then endless caves to explore and warp travel.

I keep seeing this on steam and feeling a slight urge to buy it until I see the price. 50 bucks for an old school 2D JRPG is just silly.

DQ Builders2
I've heard a lot of good stuff about these. Is it like Minecraft mixed with DQ? I need to get on twitch and check it out.
I'm coming up on a lot more free time and thinking about diving back into gaming. I've been looking through all the current games but I just can't find that one that makes me wanna pick the controller back up. I just enjoy keeping up with the times as a hobby more than I do the actual gaming now.

Octopath would be an amazing game if not for it's lack of an overarching narrative and its lack of any content whatsoever outside character vignettes.
Do a vignette then until you're high enough to beat the boss of the next one. Rinse repeat 8 times.
I for one hope they don't rock the boat too much with DQ12. It could end badly. They've butchered Final Fantasy to the point where it's barely recognizable as a JRPG.

You say that but that whole process takes a long time. Game has a ton of content, but sadly a lot of fluff.

I'm ok with some changes but please don't change it from turn based battles to some sort of action rpg or FF7r system. Us fans of turn based RPGs have very few games left.

I wish I could remember the poster that turned me on to Y's. Switch has the demo to the latest and it let me play for 5 minutes and you run up a wall...
does it get better?

is octo traveler2 like nino kuni or Tales of Val? I can deal with 2D if it is like they are.

I can’t beat the first real boss in ni no kuni, that big monster in the forest.

Probably was me. I haven't played enough of Ys IX to comment, but I do know that it does have a lot of padding in it. Gameplay and bosses are still top notch, it's just super long.

Granted it was demo only. It sucks. I liked the last Ys
