Her father isnt being selfish imo. I see a man who loves his daughter and when we are shown a glimpse of what doing this has done to his wife in full detail at the very end of the game who would allow that?

I disagree. Wanting your daughter to live a horrific reality so you can feel better about it is selfish imo.

His wife understands as she herself doesn't want to live the reality, hence staying inside the canvas.

I guess I wouldn't want to not have my wife around but they obviously are miserable if forced to live in actual reality

Maybe there's a middle ground.

Imo there is a middle ground and, from my perspective at least, its what I would consider one of if not the biggest theme or message the game has or wants to get home.

Let things go, You have to be okay with living in a world where bad things can happen, and not let it force you into a false reality (i think this is a solid metaphor for addiction.)

Grief those you lost, if youre crippled now like Alicia try to find a new purpose and meaning in life and love those you have left.

Which ones? There are really 3 main end game super bosses

Clea, the final battle at the tower with the curator and the paintress on a team, and simon

the first 2 are literally childs play compared to simon im just letting you know now.

How can I help you? I can give you general weapon and picto builds that should suffice for all but simon because you must be very specialized for him and let you take it from there? Or whatever you need mate

I can make a video showing a standard set up for a party of verso mael and sciel and it should be sufficient for all but simon and how it is laid out with the weapons skills pictos and luminas if you want then let you run with it

I have been thinking a ton about Gustave and how exactly he lost his left arm. The game never says it, it is very very slightly maybe hinted he lost it making the lumina converter. His electric arm was we know made by his apprentices.

Two interesting things that tie into this are one Simon the games highest level and ultimate super boss is also missing his left arm. We know he was a member of expedition zero who fell in love with the fake and painted clea.

Second the lampster you fight right before his death has a glowing left arm and carries lamps like somehow it obtained the chroma from his lost arm and seek out to claim the rest of him like a reaper. WE know these are painted by the real clea who works with the real renoir and in many ways gustave is the thematic stand in for maelle or alicia dealing with grief of losing verso and plants gustave there. It stands to reason theyd want him gone particulary

Interesting

However the Renoir that ends up showing up to kill him is actually the painted one by Aline as her loyal husband not the real one working with Clea. It is odd he would have some specific vendetta against Gustave, other than he was there for Maelle and he was simply in his way

Thanks bro! Builds for both would be great. I got Clea down to halfway but then she started the crazy combos.

I’m on 11.1 at the Tower too but getting my but kicked

Simon is just on another level lol

You can kill Clea in roughly 2-4 turns depending on how efficiently you parry with a party of maelle sciele and verso just using what I would consider amostly stock build built for most all purposes (the superbosses might require a few luminas added or changed but not really much)

outside of simon which DEMANDS an entire fully rearranged set up for all 5 members since they all must fight.

Do you want to know how to do this to clea?

Builds for the final 11. 11.2 and 11.3 for the tower are a bit more technical needed than clea but not much I can do that too if you neeed?

Also I assume you’re playing on expert yes? Changes the dynamic entirely

You’re also going to want to do Clea first. Her picto drop is a 30 lumina cost that heals you fully at the end of your every turn

I decided to finally beat the final boss and end the game and to take a break from it. Went with the Maelle ending.

What a masterpiece of a game

Happy for you man. You do miss out on a bunch of really important contextual story info if you don’t beat the super bosses though. Particularly Clea and Simon.

Finally beat it.

I went with the choice I wanted…Not the choice I knew was right.

Holy shite. Unbelievable. Either one.

Nobody was wrong in their thinking. If anyone is the villain it’s the mother for starting it all in the first place. Though I do not view her that way. Grief is a hell of a thing. Everyone was grieving. Everyone was hurting.

Verso, the choice I knew was right, was the one I felt sorry for most. Even more so after having selected Maelle and seeing his face at that piano. But at least he will age and die…unfortunately still believing he is the cause of this family’s descent.

Renoir…brilliant. Absolutely fricking brilliant and it all goes back to the writing.

It is a fact that this is one of the greatest games ever made. To not sweep the GOTY awards would be a slap to the face of everything gaming is meant to be and how gaming should make you feel.

I could suck off this game way more for all the obvious reasons everyone else is talking about but I have already pressed new game.

The battle theme for Renoir under the monolith, the theme that plays when you return to Lumiere for the final set piece, and the battle theme for the final boss against Curator Renoir are 3 of the best pieces of music I have ever heard in a video game.

This game should win GOTY in like 6 categories

A really cool Easter egg was the Dualliste boss. He’s basically Pontiff Sulyvahn from Dark Souls III. He looks very similar and uses the exact same weapons. Also this description from DS3:

Pontiff Sulyvahn was born and raised in the Painted World of Ariandel. He was a sorcerer who left the painting due to a lack of loss or despair, as the Painted World is a place of comfort for those who have lost something.

I finished the game Friday night. The end is a hard choice.

Things that powerfully influenced me and swayed my decision.

Seeing Alines condition from being in the painting.

Seeing the sliver of Verso's soul shaking it's head yes to Verso asking if it was tired of painting.

The way it hunkered down and went back to painting when Maelle swung her sword to stop Verso from taking its hand.

I chose Verso. It sucked letting go of the canvas peoples, but the real people carried on and they will heal emotionally... even Alicia/Maelle. Besides, she can always paint another world.

The wife who had been watching me play and keeping up with the story was sleeping. I reloaded my save and let her choose tonight. I didn't tell her there was a choice to make until it popped up lol. She said that's fricked up when I asked her to choose. She chose Maelle.

Top tier game. Just beat it went with Verso ending as the rest is all fantasy. Was getting tired of exploring and getting merked in one hit by these random game bosses in the "danger" lands, so I just went to the main story to level up but act three ended quickly and decided to beat the game.

Didn't know about the optional end game bosses like her sister and Simon. Will look into those.

I think the Verso ending is the best choice but the canvas is certainly not all fantasy. It would be the same as if we found out today we were in a simulation. Would that make us feel any less real? Of course not. The painters are essentially gods that are able to conjure their own pocket universes with living, thinking entities

The verso ending is 100% the correct choice and the game definitely takes this position if you look at the tonal resonance of the two endings. One is hopeful and the other is depicted as a hellscape. The more I think on it though, I agree, the canvas isn’t just fantasy. The characters have sentient life, and the Dessendre family are essentially creator gods with the power to create and wipe out entire worlds at their whim. This is depicted in the game from beginning to end, in regards to the characters being “real,” and just like with the endings I think the game is pushing you to support this view.

They could go in lots of directions.

1. Explore the real world conflict that led to the bombing, as well as the aftermath.
2. Campaign where Maelle is the villain and you're fighting to free Verso's soul. Paintress 2.0.
3. The beginning of the Paintress and the Expedition 0 Campaign

There are definitely more things they could do. Those are just my wish list.
