You hold it in your hands for long periods of time. You'll hold it hundreds of hours over the life of the controller. Sweat and grime gets all over any controller.
Also most lighter colored plastics still yellow with age. It used to be a more serious problem than it is these days, but it still occurs. It's one of primary reasons that electronics and video game consoles went away from gray plastics, which were so popular in the 70's and 80's.
Regardless, I think it's a stupid look. There's no doubt in my mind they'll offer multiple colors eventually like they do with all controllers, but I'm hoping they all aren't two toned and that they offer just a standard pure black model.

Right? It’s 2020, they’ve figured out how to keep plastics from coloring. I have a white ps4 controller that is pristine.

Not really, manufacturing processes have improved enough to reduce impurities which cause yellowing.
I do hope a solid black version is released at launch. I'm just not a fan of white electronics.

Still no offset sticks...
So PS has better exclusives and performance while Xbox has the superior controller layout.
Hopefully the Nacon/Scuf offset PS4 controllers will be PS5 compatible.

Xbox feels better and more ergonomic, but LB and RB are just awful. Couldn't imagine playing a Souls game or other bumper-heavy game on a One controller.

I prefer souls on Xbox controller, but DS3 is pretty pathetic on the base xbone performance-wise

I honestly can't understand why people care so much about this. Once you have it and start using it, you wont even be thinking about the color scheme in a few days.

It's like any other color preference, it's completely subjective. It matters to some people more than others.
A segment of people clearly do care though.
The GameCube launched in purple, but the primary model later on became black because so many people thought purple was stupid.
The Wii originally launched in white very soon the default color became black.
I doubt they changed the standard color of those systems on a whim.
Most electronics and electronic accessories people have around their homes (TVs, stereos, sound bars, blue ray players, almost all other game consoles, remote controls, etc.) are almost all universally black. Just for consistency alone I think a black PS5 would just blend in better and is less an eye sore in the room.
