I didn't get past a few hours when I played it originally, it has a PS5 enhancement so this is next on my list after I finish the incredible demons souls

Just beat it for the first time (Return).I love how the final boss is actually really challenging compared to Soulsborne which I still slightly prefer overall.

These Gauntlet bosses are pushing it though

GoT has difficulty levels which as a Fromsoft fanboy I detest.

I just wish I could approach anything in life with the same vigor and intensity as gyoubo masataka oniwa when he announces himself.

Man, now I want replay Sekiro, again. I already platinum’d it, but I so miss that combat. Those boss fights are my favorite of any game I’ve ever played.

So I messed around in the tutorial area for a bit this weekend, and is it just me or is the deflect action a bit delayed when you press the button? Maybe it's an issue with the DualSense, but I'd press L1 to deflect/block and the movement wasn't instantaneous. Wasn't sure if that's how it normally is? Just made it a little trickier to figure out deflect timing on enemies.

ETA: Maybe it's not a delay per se, but rather there's a startup time because it takes a moment for Wolf to lift his arm?

This game is hard AF. I find myself just panic blocking/deflecting when in a fight.

There shouldn’t be a delay; in the first playthrough you should err on the side of blocking too soon since posture is more forgiving.

Where are you stuck?

ETA: you know, fighting the final boss on NG+ I do notice that it won’t let you cancel an attack to quickly counter, which leads to some frustrating impalements where you absolutely hit Mikiri in time. A little unfair but can still be overcome by gitting gudder.

I started playing the game on my tv through the pc. About a quarter of the way through I started realizing that the deflect button seemed much less delayed when I’d play on my monitor

That’s actually a pretty effective strategy a lot of times

I'm not stuck anywhere...yet, but I do struggle with mobs. I'm watching walkthroughs by Fightin' Cowboy and BlueLizardJello on YouTube and I'm in Hirata Estate, although I don't think I've taken on a boss yet. I think the next mini boss is the shinobi hunter?

I've been grinding normal enemies to try and get the hang out things, so I'm actually accumulating a whole bunch of skill points and spirit emblems, so it's not too bad. I'm sure that'll change once I fight a boss.

I'm definitely starting to get used to the timing of the deflect windup, and I have my TV settings on Game Mode, so the lag should be minimal (at least I've never noticed any lag on other games).

I'll keep that in mind. It's just tough for me to determine at this point when an enemy is going attack multiple times, so it's a challenge knowing when to try multiple deflects. Plus, I tend to jump out of the way by accident instead of using my Mikiri counter

there's a boss coming up shortly that you cannot beat unless you have a firm grasp of the game's mechanics and fundamentals. he's an amazing boss that ends up being a lightbulb moment for a ton of players and makes everything click

Definitely looking forward to a skill check. I've been enjoying running/grappling around and fighting normal enemies to learn some mechanics. Combat is very satisfying (when I'm doing things correctly ).

So I got Plat and beat the gauntlets... ranks up there with Castlevania III, Mega Man 2 and Ninja Gaiden as my proudest gaming achievements.

How’s everyone else doing?

Damn, sounds like you got gud!

I tend to only play when I'm drinking, so things don't go that well for me. This past weekend I got by butt kicked 5 or 6 times by Seven Ashina Spears before turning off the game

I'm old and my hands aren't what they used to be but I could get through Metal Gear Rising on normal..do I stand a chance in Sekiro?..is the parry similar?

Lay off the monkey booze until you develop the muscle memory.

But practice perfecting the mikiri counter on the shinobi hunters before going back to the spear (who’s optional btw)

For those that have played Bloodborne how much harder is Sekiro? I'll likely grab it at some point just want to see how much I'll hate my life as I try to get through it.

It requires more precise reactions, but the big thing is forgetting your Soulsborne sensibilities.

There’s no stamina bar, so you should always be attacking, deflecting, healing or running. There are times it feels downright “button mashy” which is something I never thought I’d say about a From game.

Also you’ll have to break yourself of rolling forward and reliance on dodging in general as what keeps you alive in Bloodborne will get you carved up in Sekiro.

Sooo, I just did some more training with Hanbei and I've been pressing X to do a mikiri counter instead of O

Also, I REALLY need to practice jumping straight up to avoid sweep attacks so that I land on their head.

For both sweep attacks and mikiris I need to remeber to stand my ground and hit the correct button. I tend to jump away for sweep attacks and obviously miss the head stomp.
