I’ll take a closer look at it tomorrow when I’m a bit less tired, but my first knee jerk is to find a nice 6000/30 kit of of RAM instead of the 7800/38 kit you have selected. Most motherboards are going to be finicky with clock speeds that high, and I assume you aren’t going to want to deal with troubleshooting RAM instability on a kid’s gaming PC.

Funny you say that
I’m sitting here trying to determine if I should switch to 5200 to match the processor but it looks like 6000 is best.

New RAM

G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory

Also upgraded SSD to:
PNY CS3150 RGB 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 5.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

The other one was free with the cpu so I’ll probably just put it in the second slot

Good job on the fully modular PSU, a lot of first time builders don't realize how much it helps.

Make sure your SSD heatsink is secured properly, not that you'd half arse it. Testing bears out that overheating can have a deleterious effect on SSD speeds.

I know you're not thinking about it yet, but consider how you're going to control all the LEDs, especially if it's going in his room. You would think it's simple to get LEDs to shut down after xx period of inactivity, but no. I'm sure OpenRGB is fully functional on some planet, but it's not the one I'm on. You can see my Glorious mouse, but not the Glorious keyboard, mmmkay.

I don't know if the Montech has both the solid and mesh option for the top of the case, but obviously use the mesh. If there's a cat in the house, you will have just created it's new napping spot.

He's 13. If you don't get him an RTX 4090 he'll probably hate you until you're on your deathbed.

“I just want 240fps dad”

I told him if he wants that, he’ll have to save his money and buy the parts to get there.

I’m looking forward to building it with him. Should I use a torque limited screwdriver?

I’d try to bump up to a 2TB or more if it’s within the budget.

Nah, no need. Just don’t bear down on anything, especially the motherboard. Fingertip grip tight is plenty.

damn pops. that’s a hell of gift from ‘Santa’, good on you. Hopefully this is a common hobby you two can enjoy as father and son going forward. I look forward to doing so with my rotten little stinkers. What type of games is he into?

Mine are getting leggos, lincoln logs, and hot wheels, but they are toddlers. My wife won’t let me buy them any video game systems until they are at least 5. I’m itching.

Naw. Computer screws have a built in torque indicator. Tighten just until you hear a "crack!" sound and stop there. You don't wanna tighten any further than that.

KIDDING. You need to snug them up good because I've had fan vibrations loosen screws before, but just snug them up. Don't Hulk that shite.

Nice build. College Football 2025 isn't on PC...maybe 2026. I'm hoping it is.

I like that Montech case. I built my youngest's in a Montech Air 903 Max....lots of space. Feels like a solid case. Thermals are good and he's got an I9-11900K....those things are hot.

Jokes about drivers aside, if you don’t have one, getting a basic magnetic set for electronics is a good investment. There are bigger and smaller sets depending on your needs, but this is a good basic one. And if you have anyone in the family with glasses, I can tell you I blew my wife’s mind the first time I saved her a trip to the store to tighten the microscopic little screw on one of the hinges

It's more like a gaming platform where people can make their own games, then "publish them" in Roblox and people can play them.

To make Imjustafatkid's description even worse, your avatar can work in someone else's fast food restaurant, in someone else's mall, and package fries for other avatars.

Usually parents get wise after the first 30 days or so and they see the repeated charges, but that's dumb parents without proper controls on the account.

Roblox was the first tech thing that made me feel old. Someone mentioned it in conversation, and I acknowledged I had no idea what they were talking about and asked them to explain. Which… they couldn’t really do?

And now, for years, I kinda just nod along anytime it comes up, feeling like a tech fraud

There are a ton of fun games on that platform but my favorite is Shark Bite. Absolute arse graphics and controls but good lord it is fun.
