Resident Evil 2 Remake Thread

Figured I'd start one.
The early reviews are rolling in and they all appear to be pretty spectacular (91 on metacritic)
I have tried to avoid almost all media for the game, not really reading the reviews in depth. Didn't play the demo, haven't watched any gameplay footage, etc. Want to go into it as raw as possible. I played through RE2 on the PS1 at least 20 times (hell you gotta do 4 playthroughs to see everything: Leon A, Claire B / Claire A, Leon B).
IMO RE2 had the best setting and atmosphere of any RE game. RE4 is the best overall game, but RE2 has the best ingredients for a legitimate horror experience (followed very closely by RE1).
They appear to have gone full blown horror more than they ever have before. As best I can tell they seem to have dropped all campiness completely, an aspect present to varying degrees in all RE games, even if sometimes by accident.
A great example is the gun shop NPC. In the original RE2 his brief appearance is played off almost as comic relief. He's making wise cracks, flirting, way too calm given the situation. In the remake he looks and acts how you would actually expect someone to act in that situation. Terrified, desperate, exhausted, etc.
My expectations are high. Stock up on green herbs and Red Bull for Thursday night.

Are Hunk and Tofu coming back?

Meant to start this earlier. Unbelievably pumped

We’re getting a free rogue-like DLC today. It’s called Ghost Surivors. Earn points to spend at an in-game store for upgraded shite and randomized items/encounters

From what I understand yes, the 4th Survivor Mini-game has also been remade with both of them playable.
I think I remember hearing there were more mini-games too.
Not sure if that means in future DLC or what.

From what I can tell this is a future planned free DLC to the game, essentially a new playstyle mode where you can pick different characters and new random things happen, as you mentioned.

The initial leak I read said it was a Day 1 patch, but maybe not. It will contain items and enemies not in the regular game and will be released in 3 volumes (adding different characters and shite along the way)
It’s reviewing very well so far

Ah I see, so maybe we get part of it right away and they will just continue to add new characters to it as we go?
Regardless, cool little mini-games have been a staple of the RE franchise since RE2 so it's good they are putting them in the base game.
I'm sure they'll have some paid DLC ones as well, like RE7 did (and RE7 added a free one as well).

I'm so glad that Leon A/Claire B is canon again.
Good ole Kendo. "Sorry about that, babe." "I ain't got no clue, darlin'."

Yep. They were shown in the trailer at the end of the 30 minute demo. Tofu still curses in Japanese.

I'm gonna have to get this. I've enjoyed pretty much every one but the roots of survivor horror in the city is what I always enjoyed most. Later iterations got too run and gun.

Preordered the deluxe edition earlier this month.
My body is fricking ready.

Gonna beat the first one before I get this one. I don’t want to be spoiled by the better controls in 2.
Hope they keep remaking them because I can’t wait for a remastered RE4.

RE4 has already been remastered.

Not for this generation
Eta: nevermind you’re right. Are the graphics as good as RE2?

They will very likely recap the first one's important story beats in a prologue or something.
My first ever RE game was actually RE2 on the PS1 and I wasn't lost at all. I quickly went out and bought RE1 right after I finished RE2 regardless.
If you want the best version of RE1 the Gamecube remake (and more recent HD updates of it) is by far the best version of the game of course.
The original PS1 version will feel very rough around the edges but it should also be played eventually just because it's a piece of gaming history and like most older games, you get used to the wonkiness. The original RE trilogy on the PS1 (1,2,3) is all an eventual must play.
A very short non-spoilery recap of RE1:
There have been some bizarre murders on the outskirts of this midwestern city (Racoon City) and the police investigation eventually leads them to an old mansion out in the woods. The game unfolds and you quickly find out it was due to zombies created by a biological weapon outbreak.
RE2 is set 2 months after RE1.

I just got to the residence area in REmake HD (halfway I guess). Never played it or 1 prior. Dripping with atmosphere and tension. Great game that holds up even today. Never played Nemesis either, so I’m pumped they’re remaking that too.
RE2 is going to be the best reward ever. Been working on a $50MM+ project at work for the last month that has taken years off my life. I wrap it up on Thursday afternoon - perfect timing

Might wanna pump the brakes.

Prominent leaker (that leaked most of the RE2) confirmed it

The expanded story on these is so ridiculous. But I am in, bought mine today.

I haven't bought a new console since the 360 in like 2009; I'm seriously considering going pick one up for this game.
