I still can't believe a major company like Sony would let a fiasco like this happen. Also all these retailers are to blame as well. What a shite show.

What exactly would be different if they went live today?
More broken websites because even more people would be ready to buy?
The demand is crazy, probably more than they expected or have the capacity to meet. The PS4 took a week or so to sell out of initial pre-orders.
I imagine they moved up pre-orders to today to combat xbox announcing for next week. Which was a smart move, but made the process hectic.

There were preorders available yesterday right after Sony said they'll be available today. I was at work when the preorders went live so I got fricked over

Then Walmart started the free for all.
But what difference would it make?
They still sold out instantly yesterday with nobody knowing when they would drop.
It would just be even more sites breaking today.

I agree. Scalpers buying up consoles and selling them on eBay at double the price is VERY AMERICAN, but goddamn, it's a drag.

They have no real way of gauging enthusiasm. They’re basically guessing to try and determine how many people would pre order. I bet they used the Xbox pre orders as an indication of how many they would receive. Which was obviously way low in comparison.

Yesterday was the worst timing ever for retailers to jump the gun. Any other day I would have stayed up and been ready for Amazon, but I had lasik yesterday morning so I went to bed earlier.
