Tomorrow, we’re pleased to launch our second major PS5 system software update to all PS5 owners globally. The update includes a variety of enhancements to the PS5 console experience as well as 3D audio support for built-in TV speakers. It also features M.2 SSD storage expansion, which enables PS5 players to store and play PS5 games, PS4 games, and media apps directly from the expanded high-speed storage.

Has anyone purchased an M.2 SSD storage device? If so, which one did you buy?

I ordered a 1TB Gigabyte Aorus because I'm cheap and lazy and nothing I'm playing requires "the best" so I'm not looking to spend almost what I did on the console on 1TB of storage. ETA: It was $189.99.

I'm probably going to regret ordering it from Newegg but it was 'shipped and sold by Newegg' vs. Amazon and Walmart that were third party sellers with bad ratings.

I am waiting to hear about failure rates, my concern is that it will have bad cooling in the location. If it works out well though, its a definite buy for me.

I just ordered it as well. I imagine these are going to be pretty tough to get now that the PS5 update is rolling out to everyone.

The Beta was out for a while, so I'm hoping they have enough data to determine that the cooling isn't an issue.

As expected, it's out of stock just one day later. Glad I pulled the trigger yesterday.

I bought the XPG GAMMIX S70 1TB and it has been working fine. I didn't want to spend a ton to try it out on beta, but it was $154.27 delivered to my door. I can't remember the exact numbers, but I moved ~140GB of Warzone from internal to the new drive in ~100 seconds.

I also grabbed the WD_BLACK 1TB SN850 from Amazon for $249.99 (seems to be going in and out of stock) and need to decide which one I want and which one I want to give to a friend.

Seems like the FireCuda may be slightly faster, but some people say WD drives are more reliable?

I bought the 2TB WD_BLACK™ SN850 NVMe™ SSD, w/ heat sink. It installed perfectly. I had access to the Beta earlier in August and this one was readily available at the time.

My WD formatted at 6600 Mb/s. Watching YouTube videos, it showed the WD as slightly faster. But honestly, the 4 major brand ones will all be that fast. There is no difference between the ssd and the internal storage in load times and gameplay.

You have to get one with a heat sink. And the size is limited. I’ve played mine daily for almost two months and had no heating issues.

This guy does a breakdown of the 4 main SSDs that are getting purchased for this. He does game loading test and gameplay/save tests. Its worth a scroll through.
