Not saying Sony has made a lot of great decisions lately, but they are still at the top and Microsoft is still trying to catch up. Spencer is the man for the job and I'm a fan, so you can understand how their presentations are going to be more "glitzy". Sure, Sony could have done more with this, but clearly they were just concerned about getting info out.

Yep

Still comes down to exclusives.

Not only cut down Navi but variable clocks The machine would need a monster cooling solution to stay at that clock consistently. The SSD stuff is amazing at least. Wish all ps4 games were backwards compatible at the start but I'll take what I can get.

So they are adding 3D Audio. Something the Xbox One X already does. Great.

Looks about right. Storage could be off.
I guessed it would be even closer.

dont know if this is true, but damn

quote:

Keep in mind the 10.28 TFLOPs is at max boost speeds for the ps5 which will almost certainly not be at all times. This means that number is inflated, and the GitHub leak of 9TFLOPs was correct. Xbox completely decimated PS5 spec wise

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Sony is pulling the same thing they did back in 2013, changing the specs at last minute. They couldn't afford to disclose 9.2TF, so they unlocked the power to the GPU.

quote:

20% more powerful GPU on the Xbox. Also worth noting the PS5 GPU is VARIABLE frequency. This is extremely important. It means at some point the GPU will have situations where it will throttle, either due to power or temperature limits (this is how GPUs work on PC). It will probably downlock to the 9TF range (my guess is that was original spec, but by adding variable frequency it can look better on paper) They would not have said variable if this wasn't the case. The Xbox GPU is locked at 12TF at all times and does not rely on overclocking.
Slower CPU. Not by much but it is notable. Also, it's variable so 3.5GHz might be "overclocked" and the base frequency is quite a bit lower. If this is the case, the difference could really translate to a frame rate difference when all else is equal.
Slower memory. Likely will have no real world effect when comparing.
Faster SSD. Games will load 1 or 2 seconds faster (in theory). I'd rather have 20% more performance, but that's just me. Accepting third party SSD is very good though. Hopefully MS will allow third parties to make them in their new form factor
Edit: i think what will end up happening is similar to what we get when comparing PS4 Pro to Xbox one X games. The Xbox will run everything at a little higher resolution. Fidelity will be similar on both.

oh well, I will continue to get both consoles. Xbox clear winner in terms of specs, but they dont have jack shite for games. If I only had to get one, I'd go PS5

Price point will be interesting.

I'm guessing $599 for both with each offering a shitty "base" variant

Fortnite has a 3D audio option, and I don’t like it. Everything just sounds like it’s an echo chamber. If the tech gets better I may give it a shot.

I don't entirely agree.

I think Dolby Atmos Games on my XBox sound pretty awesome.

Any virtual surround scenario with only headphones or two speakers will mostly suck.

True. Xbox and PS were on pretty equal ground last gen at the start, however the better overall power of PS4 is what decimated Xbox. It was after that wave of sentiment that then the exclusives started nail the Xbox coffin shut.

MSFT has already committed to not be outdone on power, so that will shift some tide. Those 3rd party games are going to look and run better on Xbox 4.

They have to nail down exclusives, but they have better infrastructure and more money than Sony to make that happen. Halo is probably going to help some. Looks like Flight Simulator on Xbox might legit work as well, which I might be most excited about.

Also launching with BC with every gen, not every game though.

Slightly disappointed that we can't play PS3 and earlier games. Not sure how Sony fricks this up while Microsoft can do total backwards compatibility
