re: Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation

Good lord, that article and your selected quotes could not be more misleading.
First, the article claims Sony is behind it.
Next the article clarifies that the local store only said an "external party" is behind it, so now people are assuming it's Sony.
Then the article states that it's "also possible that Solutions 2 Go, the official distribution partner managing physical software and hardware releases across Brazil, could be behind this."
And finally, the article mentions that "the game remains listed with promotional perks on Mercado Livre, which has only caused confusion about why only a single online store has been targeted for now."
Nothing shady about that article or the situation whatsoever!

Correct, there is nothing shady about that article. The situation, however, is exactly what will happen with digital-only games with only one purchasing source. You're being obtuse.

Right. People are alleging that Sony is behind it. The retailer is not naming any specific party behind it. I made no claim that Sony was behind it, and neither did the article. The article simply presented what is happening.

Actually, we don't know that it wasn't Sony, which is why the article does not specifically state that it was not Sony. The article offered other potential parties, but that does not eliminate Sony. However, that is completely irrelevant to the point.

In the lawsuit, Sony points to its Software Product Licensing Agreement, which says: “The Software is licensed to you, not sold.”

They use Resident Evil Requiem as an example. One customer bought the game on February 14, 2026, and another bought it on February 25 for $69.99.
Sony’s argument is basically: if the first customer actually owned the digital game, how could Sony sell the same game to someone else.

Not only that, but one major game maker is said to be considering not releasing on PlayStation if there is no physical version.
I find it hard to believe PS would backtrack at this point after they have allowed the backlash to fester and grow exponentially for so long already, but even if they do they 100% need to lose the next console generation or we'll be right back here again.
ETA: Can you guys believe there are so many "boomers" who play games and are this opposed to no physical option? That's so wild!

I knew the other tweet was bullshite when it said project helix is 100% in on physical thanks to the disc to digital feature they are rolling out for the series X. Seems like that if there was gonna be a disc drive on project helix theyd just let people do their disc to digital on there instead of having to do it on the series X disc drive.

It's being offered on the Series X because that's the current console. The Helix isn't out yet. This program is definitely a sign toward not removing discs, not the other way around.
