Get a score with the new mobo w/o overclock and then one with an OC. I want to see how the new mobo will affect the scores (if any).

I need to try the overclock thing. But I am really not sure i want to, because I am not doing anything hardcore. It would really just be to say I did it.

Well done
Didn't you have watercooled 68xx series cards? Is your 2600k under water at that high of volts? What voltage is your 7970 at? I think I got a dud 7970 for OC'ing

This is what scares me about OCing, I really don't need it as things run fine. I just with it with just a small bump up to see what it does.

when I was first learning about building PCs my brother decided he would try to OC my CPU, the second he turned it on it popped and smoke came soaring up from the case

My card still works fine, just won't stay stable at any OC whatsoever, and supposedly my card is supposed to overclock very nicely.

I did have watercooled 6950s in crossfire. I got sick of games not being optimized for crossfire, in that they either don't utilize the second card, or they do but it's glitched in some way (stutter, flickering, physics issues, etc.). So I sold them off and got a 7970 with a full cover water block. I originally planned to get a GTX 680, but the price was right on the card I got, and I may decide to do mining again later.
CPU is definitely under water. Never goes above 60-65C at those volts, and I have to really be pushing it in Prime95. It's not a 24/7 voltage since I OCed with turbo boost enabled. CPU degradation is a possibility in the long run, but that will give me an excuse to upgrade.
My 7970 is at 1.3v. It's about as high as I want to go until others can confirm the card has a safe higher voltage. RAM voltage is stock.
This overclock is slightly unstable, but only in furmark. Furmark is unrealistic GPU stressing, though (of course, I probably can't mine at these clocks either). I can game and bench all day with these clocks. Furmark crashes it within about 10 minutes. Not even a heat issue either. The card never goes above 48C in furmark, and 40-43C in games.

I'm the total opposite with my card. It runs just fine OC'd in furmark, but when I try out 3DMark or Heaven 3.0, I get an almost instant crash

What are you using to OC? Afterburner? Is the issue you're experiencing involve weird monitor distortion/flickering/lines, etc?
Posted on 12/21/12 at 2:42 pm to ILikeLSUToo
Yup afterburner.
It just crashes the the app and it says too much workload (not exactly that, but basically)

Looks like these will the the setting I try for my i2500k once I know it's stable I will looking into my 7950.
You can probably run 43X @ + or - 1.265V
44X @ + or - 1.295V
45X @ + or - 1.325V
As JackNaylorPE said: "The 212 will get ya to 4.4 - 4.5 Ghz "
The 2500K seems to love the 45X or 4500mhz range, and with air cooling I don't suggest you attempt going past 45X.

Try setting "unofficial overclocking" to "2" instead of "1" and see if that helps stability. I had a similar issue and this setting helped. The drawback was that it capped the voltage at 1.3, but as I said that's as high as I was willing to go anyway.
