Advanced replacement is pretty balled. I wish it was an industry standard.

Is it still using the bulldozer architecture?

There's an ssd hierarchy chart on the last page or a few pages back

This looks like one of their older Sandforce drives. Be careful. Sandforce controllers used to be ones to avoid because of their failure rates, but they tend to fail in the early weeks/months and would be under warranty. Since they're still selling this drive, I have to assume the firmware has improved drastically. (If you buy it, I would check for firmware updates on the drive before you do anything else with it).

Other than that, it looks like the performance is up to par with other SSDs.

I am going to hold off for a few reasons. I don't need it, the stuff you listed, and because it's ranked pretty low on the chart a few pages back.

I have the Vertex now and it's been great and I really, really want around 500GB but I can wait until a better product goes on sale.

Yeah it looks like the random read/write speeds are actually not what they could be in comparison to some of the more recent drives. I have the now-discontinued Samsung 830 and it's the best I've had so far. As much as I hate blind brand loyalty, I tend to be that way when it comes to storage because dealing with a failed drive is such a hassle sometimes. I think I'll remain a Samsung SSD fanboy unless Samsung gives me a good reason not to be.

Only if its the 840 pro or 830. The normal 840 is alright, but some of the other sandforce drives (like your vertex) outperform it.

Thanks. I didn't know

I just got off the phone with Gigabyte and my 7870 will ship out of RMA today. It had a bad memory module they replaced. It still has 2.5 years of warranty left too if y'all know anyone wanting a 7870.

Yeah, that's an important distinction. Normal 840 has crippled write speed. Interesting business model.

I have the normal 840 and it works great if you just want to compare it to a normal hdd. I have no other experience though to compare it to pro series or anything.

New partial build:
1. i3 3220
2. 64gb SSD for OS
3. 1tb WD Blue, sata 6.0
4. 8gigs of gskill
5. ASRock h77 pro4 mobo
6. Cooler master 550w ps

Used my old cooler master case/recently purchased dell monitor. First mobo I've had that has UEFI bios which is pretty cool. For now I'm gonna roll with my HIS HD7750 video card.

Was really caught in between doing a budget build and wanting to not be locked in with the 1155 socket. But 1150 will be old news in a year or two anyway.
