Not touching $2200 in vid cards no matter what. Maybe if I had one of those $15K machines that do the work for you.

One of his cards could buy two of my machines

Reasonable.

Could you educate me on how these upper end mobo's would be better than the 100 buck z77's?

overclocking, more pci-e slots, better power phase, better capacitors and hardware on the board. Generally enthusiast level shite when you start getting into the $200+ price range.

no problem. I'm sure there's more than just that stuff but the more mobo knowledgeable guys can fill you in on.

Truthfully the features are mostly geared at multi GPU set ups and overclocking.

No big deal if you don't need either one of them because you aren't into that. I just figured I would offer.

You can compare them here to see

I have one of those Extreme 4s coming in as well. I included it in the comparison.

Hey guys, after building and then going the way of laptops for 6 years, I'm going back to building.

I imagined spending 2k on the tower and it's main components. This is what I have so far. Where should I cut back first to get under 2k but still allow for future expansion.

Aprreciate any tips

I plan on pairing that 780 a short time into the rig's lifespan.

Fantastic setup there. I might go with a larger HDD but I dont know your storage needs so 1 TB might be plenty for you with the 256 SSD. I just like to know I have the extra space and a 2 TB drive is barely anything more.

I still dont quite see the need for a 780 at that price. Honestly, I'd save some money and go with SLI 660TI's or crossfire 7870LE's.

Wasting money on 1155. Its a dead board.

Since youre spending so much on a motherboard, I would go to 2011

got a point there. $250 on outdated equipment is a lot. id go with a $100 asrock z77 board or splurge and do 2011

I think you may be right about the 780's. I'm kinda jumping right into the cycles, being out of the game for a few years, and didn't realize how new the 780 was. Same thing with the motherboard; this is exactly the kinda help I needed, and appreciate.

I have multiple external hard drives with all my stuff on it, so I kinda just use my big HD as a purgatory before final resting places.

I kind of derp'd on the 660Ti's, you can get 2 670's for about the same as a 780 and eat it's lunch with that setup. SLI 670's would be BEAST.

670s are the worst card to buy right now... you can get equal performance for less or much better performance for the same price or a little more.
