I got a das S With blues. Hopefully I can find a decent set of white keycaps that aren't so damn expensive

It's lonely without a video card... I'm trying to stay patient for the AMD cards to drop back to MSRP.
Some of the 280s have been decently priced the past few days.

I know but I'm waiting on the 290(x) to drop.

I am joining the Master Race within the next month or so.

I'm not finished with planning my build, but this is what I have so far. This is also the first PC I will have ever built, so I'm probably overspending somewhere in here.

Don't get a 2/3 year old GPU.
Posted on 3/14/14 at 9:40 pm to stout
Is there a good GPU in that price range that you would recommend? I'm not a heavy gamer, but I would like to be able to get as much quality as possible out of them when I do play.

What's going to be your primary use, if not gaming?
Posted on 3/14/14 at 10:26 pm to ILikeLSUToo
I'm a data analyst, so I would like to be able to work from home sometimes (hence the dual monitors), and I need enough power to be able to handle the massive spreadsheets I'm creating. I also have an extensive music library that I'm working on getting upgraded to FLAC (and I'm buying a DAC soon). And I stream a lot of HD video.
I'd also call myself a moderate gamer, though I've always had a console, the PS3 being the most recent.
I figure that if I spent a little more on this rig, it would still be less expensive than buying a computer and a new console. Plus I will have the freedom to upgrade parts as I need to, better warranties, and who needs tech support anyways?

I'd grab a 760 over the 7870
Posted on 3/14/14 at 11:09 pm to ILoveLamp
Here, shifted a few things around to make room for the 760:
LINK
Went with the 8320 instead of the 8350. Won't notice a difference. 1600Mhz RAM instead of 2133. Again, no real-world use difference. Changed your PSU to the semi-modular version for the same price.

All I have is a 260x, but I'm too lazy to move it from my HTPC. I haven't even booted up my 4770k build yet.
Word, I understand that concept.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the noise from my fans on my PC? Whenever I am streaming, my viewers always mention the background noise because the fans are constantly going.
Posted on 3/15/14 at 1:06 pm to USAF Hart
If you're hearing it even when you're streaming your console games, I bet it's from your CPU fan since you're using the stock fan, and streaming puts a load on the CPU.
One thing you could do is try to get the PC as far away from the mic as possible. The next option is to go into your bios and see if there's a less aggressive fan profile or manually adjust the fan curve. We can do the same with your video card, if that ends up being the problem.
Your next option is to upgrade your cooler, but I'll defer to others on which air cooler would provide quiet performance for a good price. I figure the hyper 212 would be quieter, but I've never done a side-by-side comparison to the AMD stock cooler.

I really like the way that monitor looks, and for $99 it's very nice.
