I know you can get pretty far in IT without a computer science degree but how much of an advantage do you guys think it is? Is there a different direction you can go with the degree vs certifications and experience?

Do you mean a CIS degree or CS degree?
CS is a waste if you are going into networking or sys admin. CIS would help give you a leg up. Either way certifications and experience trump a degree anytime.
I don't know a lot about programming careers but I think they care even less, they just want you to be able to demonstrate you know your stuff.
Take a look at this thread on tech exams. You can see their experience, education, position, and salary. LINK
I'd start from the end and work backwards.

What is cis? Computer information systems? Thanks for the info. It recently came up in discussion with the wife if it would be worth going back to school

I would have thought cs would do more than cis, interesting...

Like I said, depends on the field. CS degrees typically teach quite a bit of programming.
I've never seen a job ad for a technical position require a 4yr cs degree. Safe to say if that was on the ad then it was probably put out by hr and not the it dept and probably had other ridiculous requirements to go along with it.

I see what your saying. The cs curriculums I looked at did have a lot of programming which I may want to do at some point. I'm hoping to learn some after I'm done with a+

I'm a CIS major right now, and my first 2 courses are programming courses, and about 80% of the rest of them are

I looked at that in case I moved back just to see what lsu offers

Some of you might have read this 690 story on Toms already.. for those who haven't, pretty interesting stuff.

Fast-forward to the Kepler generation. When Nvidia introduced GeForce GTX 680, revealed its GK104 roots, and didn’t discuss compute performance at the launch event, everyone suspected something higher-end was waiting in the wings. As we now know, Nvidia needed around 18,000 GK110s to sell to the government in the form of Tesla cards. So, it made the decision to take GK104 to market first, not necessarily knowing how the card that later became GeForce GTX 680 would fare against AMD’s best effort. In retrospect, its approach paid off. But it could have just as easily gone badly.

Have you guys seen the pre-order prices for 290X + BF4 bundle?
Listed @ 7299 kr which converts to 1143.65 USD. Take away the BF4 add on and this GPU still comes in around $1K. Really thought AMD was going for the 780 price point.

European prices are usually doubled what US prices are. AMD said it would be cheaper than the 7990
