Dude, this is supposed to be a budget machine. Does he really need that blu-ray writer?

The 970 chipsets can't handle the 8350/8320 chips when overclocking. The power phase design isn't there so they have trouble keeping up with voltage demands
this is actually a good example of two things:
1) why each component of a build should be of the same "quality" aka no cheaping out on component X so you can afford to include component Y.
and
2) why the CPU is the absolute least important part of a gaming build. their only real function is to not bottleneck the graphics card and they can be replaced and resold so easily.
sucks the 970 can handle the eight core Visheras. they did not have that problem with the eight core Zambezis i dont believe.

I agree completely. I only have a 970 now because its from my original build with my phenom 955 but I will be upgrading shortly. I was having throttling issues with my overclock in prime95 and LinX even with stock voltage and its because the VRMs are getting too hot. I put a fan directly on top of the heat sink and dropped the temps by 5c but it still isn't enough. The bad part is that I reset the bios to default and I tested it and it is doing the exact same thing. It isn't even stable at stock but at 4.5@1.38 I played bf3 and streamed all of it for 6 hours yesterday with 90% CPU usage and it never crashed and never got hot.

Nah, there's a 4K monitor in that build.
Really, though, that build needs more Windows 7 licenses. Right now it's the bottleneck.

General question. Hypothetically speaking, lets say my cpu craps out or i upgrade the cpu. Will i need to reinstall windows for it to work properly?

I thought that was a nice touch

As long as the cpu's are the same brand right? Obviously i would have to reinstall windows if i went from amd to intel because id have to swap out mobos.
Posted on 8/5/13 at 12:27 pm to finchmeister08
Windows is tied to the HDD , not the CPU
Posted on 8/5/13 at 12:31 pm to sbr2
So as long as i keep the hard drive, i can interchange any of the parts in my computer worry free?(cpu, mobo, etc)
Posted on 8/5/13 at 12:33 pm to finchmeister08
Make sure you keep the Windows Authentication stuff, if you swap a HDD to a new computer and try to use the old OS, you will have to reauthenticate.

No. You should always do a clean install when swapping mobos. Everything else should be fine.

Thats what i thought. I was under the impression that the product key was tied to the bios on the mobo.
Posted on 8/5/13 at 12:41 pm to finchmeister08
It is usually tied to the mobo
Posted on 8/5/13 at 12:48 pm to Mr Gardoki
which is where the bios is correct?
