If tweet fails to load, click here. I think investors are just extremely overreacting because most don't understand the technology to begin with, but also they actually believe China and their usually bullshite claims.
No idea if what this tech CEO is saying is true, but I 100% believe this as a reason for their development over Deepseek claiming they only spent $6,000,000. Everything about this story and event feels extremely astroturfed and almost like some kind of economic disinfo campaign by the CCP to damage the US economy.
A single H100 costs around $25,000-$40,000... if they secretly have 50,000 of them, that's easily over a billion dollars invested.

I think the fact that a (thus far) relatively weak story can shake the AI market so thoroughly indicates just how much of that market believes itself to be a bubble.

Anyone here been able to get their hands on a 5080 or 5090?
I'm not in the market, but I find it incredibly frustrating that this is a constant issue with GPUS and, hell, event he 9800x3d is scarce outside of ebay.
I know, broken record is broken. I'm just venting.

Was able to get a 9800x3d a few weeks ago online from Best Buy. Actually ended up with two of them bc my Amazon order came through after being in limbo for over a month.
No such luck with either 50 series cards yesterday morning.

Pretty sure there are less than 1,000 5090s in the country as of now

I briefly tried to pick one up from BestBuy yesterday morning just to take advantage of price inflation either of that card or my 3080, got in line instantly and sat in that line for an hour before it told me they were sold out. It wasn’t what I would call a pleasant experience

It seems to be like this for every single drop these days.
For my 4080 Super, I used Hotstock to follow Nividia and was able to get one during one of their big drops. I couldn't make myself do the bestbuy dance every day. Hotstock will send you instock notifications even if they card isn't shippable to you....so frustrating.

If you are right, I wouldn't consider that a launch. Feels like a sample.

Trump is meeting with Jensen Huang today. Hopefully Jensen can talk some sense into Trump to carve out exceptions for TSMC chips from Taiwan. Otherwise hardware costs are going to skyrocket.

I will give Nvidia props for DLSS 4, it's a pretty noticeable improvement.
Posted on 2/2/25 at 6:03 am to GoGators1995
Ya, it's really good. DLSS4 performance looks better than DLSS3 quality mode and even better than native in some cases at 4k.
Luckily, the 5080 stock has been awful or I would've fricked around and bought one. I didn't say I tried tho, had it cart a few times at Newegg and BB, but it kicked me out at checkout.
You can overclock the card an additional 10-15% and put it within spitting distance of a 4090.

I need Nvidia to unfrick their "override" feature in the app, because yeah, DLSS4 is kind of a sea change. I don't know that native is truly dead, but we're certainly starting to flirt with it. It's honestly the one saving grace of this otherwise very lackluster GPU generation. There are a ton of people on 20 and 30 series cards that are going to get a functional 20-30% "performance increase" out of DLSS4 because they'll be able to move from native to Quality/Balanced or Quality to Balanced/Performance.

I'm glad I wasn't off on this. I mentioned in the other thread that I thought the really excellent frame per watt performance of the 5080 was a harbinger for really solid OC/UV performance. Glad to see that's how it shook out.
It's honestly one of the things I miss most about not having upgraded for so long: I was genuinely looking forward to sinking another dozen hours or so into tweaking a new GPU into within an inch of its life

A few reviewers absolutely hate the 5080 and says its a no buy...at all. GamersNexus, Jay, Linus.....Not sure why the hate.
But GN did a video yesterday calling the 5090/5080 a "paper launch" because they cannot find data for more than a few hundred 5090s that would have been available. They tried to buy them through a few of their means and were not able to purchase one. Says it may have been due to the launch being around the Chinese Lunar new year when factories close for months, and were puzzled as to why Nvidia launched at this moment.

Oh don’t get me wrong, it’s an absolute garbage card. 10% uplift over the previous gen after two years is awful. Needing a significant OC to match the previous generation’s xx90 is awful. I was excited coming into this release, but now I’m probably skipping this generation unless an interesting 5080ti/super comes out on a cut down 102 die.
I just miss fiddling with my card
Posted on 2/4/25 at 9:17 am to Joshjrn
It's disappointing because that was only a problem with the 4060 and 4060 Ti last gen.

This launch for Nvidia is puzzling.
Any word on 9800x3d stock?

It gets restocked pretty frequently; it just goes back out of stock quickly. Set some alerts and you should be able to pick one up without too much pain.

Still OOS at MSRP.
