Ah, didn't realize you were in push/pull. Doesn't really change my concern about the GPU exhaust, but does shift my concern about how much positive the pressure of the system was. Though with that said, what fans are you using? That's three fans more than your spec count
Posted on 6/25/23 at 1:26 pm to Joshjrn
Yea I used the nzxt Aio fans it came with to do the push pull… there are 9 120mm Sl uni fans and 3 140mm Sl uni fans… the three 140mm fans and 4 of the 120 fans are intaking air, and the the rest are exhaust. But the intakes have some mesh impeding flow. It’s probably slightly positive air pressure. Which I think is fine. With the amount of air flow volume the case has, I actually run my pc on the silent fan profile. Stays VERY silent even at load. It’s nuts.

I would say you're probably more than slightly positive, but it's fine either way. I just didn't know if your GPU pushing hot air directly up into your CPU cooler would cause you any issues.

I haven’t experienced any temp issues yet. I knew vertically mounting the GPU isn’t the best thermal wise, but 4090s come with giant overbuilt heat sinks anyway so I didn’t think the slight thermal performance hit offset the aesthetics of the vertical mount

My GPU is mounted vertically. No judgment there
GPUs put out a tremendous amount of heat, so they can significantly elevate your CPU temp if they exhaust directly into a CPU rad. But if you’re not having any issues with it, it’s nothing to worry about.

Damn these reviews for the 4060 have been brutal… nvidia really are greedy scum for trying to market a 4050 as a 60 series card. Dlss 3 is a nice feature, but it’s not worth the premium they’re asking people to pay
Posted on 6/28/23 at 6:09 pm to LSUGent
It’s what they’ve done all generation, outside of the 4090. The 3090 and 3080 were on the 102 die. The 4090 is the only sku on 102. The 4080 is on 103. The 3070 was on 103, now the 4070 is on 104. Etc, etc.

A 1060 went head to head with a 980.
A 2060, as much maligned as Turing was, went head to head with a 1080.
A 4060 can't even keep up with a 3060 Ti.

Ya, the 4060 and 4060ti are in no-mans land. As is the 7600.
This generation is trash for upgrades if you have a 6xxx or 3xxx card.
I on the other hand had a 1xxx card and it was time to upgrade. Sucks, but it is what it is.

And honestly, performance this gen in a vacuum is generally solid. It’s pricing that’s stupid. So as long as you aren’t super price sensitive, there’s nothing wrong with buying into this gen if it gives you a wanted upgrade.

Still not a “good” price, and the sale is now over, but in a sign that the universe might be beginning to heal, an MSI 4080 was discounted to $999 earlier today for a few hours. Hopefully an indication of progress in the near to mid future.

Still seems $49.99 too expensive

I don't think a single 5600X3D has been sold yet at either Microcenter here. But it's not the weekend yet and I guess people only wait in line for GPUs.

It would be a lot more compelling as a $175-200 CPU

They're also selling a bundle with an Asus B550 TUF mobo and 16gb of RAM for $330.

It's in a bit of a weird spot. It's obviously a great gaming CPU, but people buying into the end of a platform cycle generally want a little more future-proofing than a six core chip can provide. Now, if I'm already on the platform and my cpu goes out, it's a great buy. But as an upgrade? It's a little tough.

You can buy a regular 5600(with cooler included), a cheap matx board, and get 32gb of ddr4 for under $300

The 5600X3D crushes it in gaming though, it's almost as fast as the 5800X3D.

Yea it’s not a bad CPU, but it’s still only 6 cores, and is made for a dead end socket. Also to factor in, if something happens to your CPU, their likely will be no way to replace it by AMD in the future since the supply is so limited, but maybe that will mean a free upgrade???There are better options for people that a truly building on a budget, especially $800 and under. Microcenter does have a prebuilt with this cpu and a 6650xt for $849, which is actually pretty insane, but of course they cheat you with a 500gb ssd and only 16gb of ram
