anyone considering getting a 3070 if possible or are you wanting to see what happens with the quality issues? y'all think they'll have the same issues as the 3080?

Never buy anything without seeing performance numbers and benchmarks from an unbiased source.

when is the best time to purchase upgrades for cpu/mobo/ram combo? I would like to get them before CP comes out.

I've been out of the PC game for so long but I need to build one now. I guess I better get some reading in because I have no idea what's what these days.

My last rig had a HD 7970 and FX-8350

Yes! I finally hardwired my house so I figured why not. I need a new machine for Photoshop and Illustrator so why not game again as well.

Prime day is tomorrow, memory has been on sale for a minute. Don’t think you’ll be seeing big discounts on MOBO’s at least with AMD because their new line is about to drop.

Anyone have tweaks/recommendations here? Looking at getting two 34" 1440p monitors.

Hold off on that CPU and GPU. New CPUs and GPUs are on the way from AMD.

Also you don’t need 32 GB of memory for a gamingPC (if that’s all you’re doing).

Go for 16 GB of DDR4-3200 at a minimum. (DDR4-3600 is most ideal for Ryzen)

The 970 is a good nvme ssd but a few years old at this point. The Western Digital SN750 500 GB is a newer-ish drive with similar performance at the same price, sometimes lower

Understood. I’ll standby on the CPU/GPU.

I’m going to be doing photo editing and programming but you’re right, I probably could swing 16GBs for now. RAM is nothing to upgrade. I’ll get the 3600 for that.

Appreciate all the feedback. This was just after my cursory research on Tom’s hardware.

Are you saying hold off on the card/chip to buy the new one, or would the older card/chip just drop in price?

I think you want this one over the 2070 super:

But if you can wait another month or two, you will get to see how AMD's graphics cards stack up performance-wise at your price point.

Yeah I can wait. I can start getting the other more standard components in the mean time. Y'all are the best.

Yeah I'd aim for all of it, but worst case, I don't want to play a PowerPoint slideshow so...frames.

To that point, I found a benchmarker that does comparisons at high and low graphics settings.

LINK

1080p vs 1440p vs 4k at high and low settings, and he switches up the CPUs also
