Yeah, they're universal so I'm sure I'll get more usage out of it at some point.

i might counter with a $300 price if he'll let me take it off and reinstall the blower cooler. Only thing is the thermal pads. i'm sure the originals aren't any good anymore.

Making a trip out to MicroCenter tomorrow morning to finally upgrade my 6600k. Looking between the 10700k and the 10850k. Was wondering if there is any reason to go with the i9 (can also get the 10900k for $477 but that’s at Best Buy).
Basically will be using it for gaming, I just ride my CPU for a while and want it to last about 5-6 years, 6600k cut me a little short.

We're literally 2 weeks from Zen 3...

I know I’m just not really looking at AMD mainly because I have used Intel on my three previous builds, also if it’s anything like the 3080 I’m about two months out from being able to get my hands on one.
$350 for the 10700k is tempting for me, I am trying to hold out for Zen 3 but I’m starting to believe it’s foolish to think I’ll get my hands on one.

I don't think Zen 3 is expecting any shortages. TSMC is not Samsung.
If anything they'll force Intel to drop prices more as they'll be losing pretty bad across the board.

I might hold out a little longer then, just bought a xs8200 1tb and 32gb of ram. I can still work on the case and power supply for the meantime.

Yeah I'd at least wait until Oct 8th and see what Intel does with their pricing if going that route.

y'all use sound cards at all? can you suggest one?

Not sure I need that much. Going back to my audio problems the other day, I’m almost certain that my on board audio controller is shot since I can’t get it working. I just need a simple sound card that reads a mic and sends audio to my headphones.

Oh okay, yeah just grab whatever then. I have high end audio setups.
I think you can get a Soundblaster Audigy FX for ~$30.

AMD Big Navi might still be faster than the RTX 3080

quote:
The listing hints that the GPU will feature 80 compute units (CUs) and a 256-bit memory bus. If each Compute Unit (CU) in AMD's RDNA 2 architecture still equates to 64 Stream Processors (SPs), that means Big Navi will have 5,120 SPs.

Is Big Navi only supposed to compete with Nvidia's mid-range card?
Posted on 9/23/20 at 11:31 pm to Raz
No it competes with the 3080, Nvidia's top gaming card.

Why stop fanboying there? Show me big Navi specs compared to the 3070.

I just care about the 3080 level card. Find your own shite for the other cards.
And if you don't like AMD, this may not be the thread for you, especially over the next couple of months with Zen 3 and then Big Navi.

Fanboying or not, if AMD can get anywhere near close to RTX 3080 performance for $600 and they dont have the inventory issues, they will hurt Nvidia.

The 3080 is Nvidia's flagship gaming card (per their own admission), the 3090 is a Titan replacement and more for workstation. It just so happens to game 8k60 in some titles well which is how they are marketing it towards gamers.
At any rate, you have to be a little crazy to spend $1500-$1700 on that card for 10% more gaming performance over a $700-$800 3080.

the official specs arent out yet and it's kind of pointless still till we know what the actual performance is. You know, not just trusting marketing material like how the 3080 was "2x faster" than a 2080. AMD will do a similar thing no doubt, but the fact remains if AMD can have inventory and compete well in the 3070/3080 space, they will crush sales compared to Nvidia because they can actually produce a supply while Nvidia cant on Samsung 8nm right now and seemingly through the end of the year.
If they come out with 12 GB and 16 GB cards especially nvidia will almost have to immediately counter with some Ti/Super cards with higher memory as 8-10GB simply isnt enough for 4k gaming.
From what it sounds like the AMD cards competing with nvidia will have 8 GB for 3060 competitor, 12 GB for 3070 competitor and 16 GB for 3080 competitor, but also still speculation right now.
