Ryzen 1 came out in 2017 right? I mean that’s still 3+ years of support of CPUs on a single socket.

BIOS chips do have size limitations. I’m not too upset about it.

B450/X470 essentially supported 3 entire CPU cycles.

I mean it's still awesome sure you can put 3 generations of CPUs on different chipsets for sure, but they said 4 generations and now backed off that. Can understand why people with X370/X470/B450 boards certainly feel a bit cheated there. IF they never promised that, I'm sure no one would really be upset. I mean even last year they were saying directly they would support 4 full generations on chipsets with AM4, which is why a lot of people bought B450 over X570 in the last year still. Just seems like a very Intel-esque move to do this, they shouldn't have that big an issue working around the bios issue just working with those manufacturers to release a downloadable bios for the newest chips basically and ending support for older chips when upgrading. This move they are doing is obviously to just make more $, riding the wave.

My 3900x works fully on my x370.

Was planning to upgrade again on the board because it was still going to be supported. May skip this generation this time.

A 3900x on an X370 board will last you a long time. Why would you need to upgrade right away? That is good for years

Look while this is disappointing, there is a legit issue with boards that don’t have adequate BIOS sizes. MSI had that issue with their boards this past generation. 3 cycles of CPUs is a ton of CPUs to support in a BIOS, let alone potentially another generation.

Motherboard manufacturers may have to rerelease boards like MSI did or cut support for CPUs in their existing boards with new BIOS updates to make things work for a new generation of CPUs.

For AMD, to say they will support something and then not to live up their word, is bad, and they should not make a habit of doing that.

But I can understand where they are coming from, as someone who designs and verifies hardware components (and produces a shitload of documentation) for a living.

I've haven't been more impressed with price/performance of a CPU since SandyBridge.

Edt: Thinking about buying a 3300X for emulator build.

A 3300x is basically a $120 7700k in 2020. 4 years ago that seemed fricking nuts to think about.

Insane right?

I emulate everything off my Pi4 but it can't do GC games, and we like Mario Party 5.

So will purchase to make a cheap emulation box with which GPU, still don't know, but I want a 3300X.

There was a pretty bad backlash went they suddenly said zen 3 would only work on X570 and B550 chipsets because they promised compatibility on the 400 series boards too originally, like used getting B450 as a selling point to save money over X570 but still support future AM4 chips.

So a lot of people in the last year bought B450 over X570 to save some money thinking it would be compatible with Zen 3 still, but then they said it wouldnt be last week changing their minds....so now they are figuring out a solution to at least B450/X470 owners.

Okay boys, I am considering making the investment into a rig, but have no real clue where to start or how to be sure I’m getting a good deal or don’t miss an important piece.

As of now the only game I play on Steam is Football Manager 17. This will likely still be the game I play the most, but I will also be interested in big titles as well that will require some power to run at max settings.

Any help is appreciated.

You could run that game on a toaster

You would be surprised. My Mac Pro had a lot of system upgrades from the standard model and it still somewhat goes pretty slow. I like to run a lot of leagues and it takes like 3-4 minutes to save

But yes, to run the base game it doesn’t take much to power.

I am just wanting to move from a laptop to a desktop.
