Netflix eyes move to AMD Epyc processors in data centres

quote:

As recently reported, alongside its latest financials, AMD's Epyc (and Ryzen) processors are particularly strong revenue generators for AMD and it looks like this will continue. This looked like a dead cert for AMD back in August when it launched its new AMD Epyc 2 (Rome) processors with great industry support from the outset. Two of the biggest new names to get on board the AMD Epyc train at the Rome launch were Google and Twitter. Now it looks like another very big name in tech is about to purchase a ticket.

Maybe because I'm old and stuff.. I love Nintendo.

In my Childhood that was it, just Nintendo. Didn't get into PC gaming until 93 but mainly 97.

That seems under powered?

Edt:
Reading about it now. I'm lost, it almost sounds like the 845 but utilizes cores differently to focus on battery life over performance.

Found some night reading.

I'm throwing my matx board, 4670k and 1060 in the living room for HTPC and maybe some single player action. I need a classy low profile case and a good solution for controlling it.

I don't want to have to have a wireless keyboard and mouse laying around, if I don't have to. What are my options? Just remote in from my phone?

just understand it will very bottlenecked in some newer games by your 4 thread CPU

Yes. My 2070 Super runs at around 65% with everything on Ultra and scale set to 120 in PUBG @1080p. My 4670K overclocked to 4.3 sits at 90+% all the time.

ETA: I always get the last post on a page.

I've been suppose to purchase the 3800 for my main rig. But kind of stopped gaming in October. Didn't even turn it in in October, maybe once or twice for updates.

I need to do it before Fallen Order though.

3800? Why not just overclock the 3700? That's my plan. I expect them to be the same, with the 3800 being slightly better binned. The overhead on the 3800 apparently is extremely limited out of the box, and can be achieved by the 3700.

Just want that extra, be extra extra. For 100 more, I got to. It will be a 3yr CPU most likely.

Plus the block is already $100. It's not worth it for a better binned on air but liquid maybe?

It's really not worth it.

Just can't put that gimped 65W part underwater. Idk if there is a hard or soft lock on the limit. I need to read more.

Good gamersnexus video on Read Dead 2 CPU limitations using a 2080 Ti:

LINK

4 core/4 thread i5-7600K was basically unplayable with the drops they got, also some wonky things going with i7-9700k but a workaround with that, they were using 1080p/medium but at 1440p/medium the 9700k issue went away. An old 4c/8t 2600k was a better experience than a 7600k.

Even the 6c/6t i5-9600k had some noticeably bad drops.

Thought so too

He does good work. The only mainstream one I really support.

Linus does a good job now too. But for a different reason. He stopped being a technical analyst and starting doing what he is good at, what if projects.

AMD Announcements...

LINK
Threadripper 3960X - 24c/48t, 3.8ghz/4.5ghz will be $1399
Threadripper 3970X - 32c/64t, 3.7ghz/4.5ghz will be $1999

Little surprised they jacked up the price on the 3960X from the 2970WX especially with Intel dropping the 18 core i9-10980XE down under $1k now, thought they may have done $1199-ish for 3960X, I know some were even hoping for $999 to kill that 10980XE even, but that was wishful thinking wiuth a 24 core part. Today I can get the 2970WX from Microcenter for $799 new though, but leads me into...

TRX40 the new motherboard chipset for Threadripper Gen 3 and is not compatible with Threadripper Gen 1 and Gen 2. New Threadripper CPUs also not compatible with X399.

3950X coming on Nov 25th at $750 and they recommend a 280mm AIO to cool it and arent including any cooler in the box

Ryzen Master software getting "Eco" mode which will make their 95w/105w chips run down at 65w and the 65w CPUs down at 45w.

And the Athlon 3000G will be $50, 35w, 3.5ghz, (1.1ghz on GPU Vega 3) 2c/4t with the 65w wraith stealth and it's UNLOCKED to AMD, that will be a fun little chip.

Not going to lie, I want to get my hands on a 3000G put it in my X570/240mm AIO cooled system and let her rip
