It is to make up for the difference in width between the stock pad at say 0.5mm and just a thermal grease which is obviously much much thinner.

So to apply the same pressure you need the washers.

Ah okay. So you’re basically bringing the cooler closer to the GPU chip on the opposite side of where the washers are. Are the additional thermal pads still necessary on the backplate or is the whole “mod” just the washers and paste on the GPU aside?

Just the washers after you remove the thermal pad and use a good grease.

I think the only tube I have around the house is a Thermaltake brand I got from Best Buy 9 months ago. Should I upgrade?

Probably nothing if your just running it stock and limiting the TDP.

But why?

Can somebody suggest a monitor? $150 for 144hz. Amazon has a Sceptre for $159 but I’m not to sure about it.
