Wasn't sure if this is the right place, but didn't want to start a thread first and get blasted.

I'm looking for a new laptop, but wanted to get into the gaming world and was thinking about a gaming laptop but wanted this boards thoughts on them? Some of your picks for the top ones?

Was wanting to get a head start on the research before Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Go ahead and make a thread. It's probably been done a million times but times change and people are lazy at looking. I don't mind the same topics as long as the parameters are different.

Probably around $1,500 tag right now. $1,000 would be preferred before the Thanksgiving sales hit

I don't know where that's gonna get me or if that's enough for something of solid enough quality

MSI GP63

Probably the best bang for your buck right now, 15'6" full HD 120Hz panel with a GTX 1070, 8th gen i7 6 core CPU, 16GB DDR4, 128GB SSD + 1TB SSHD and perfect reviews.

Anything else around that price range and even above is going to drop down to a 1060.

If you're okay with a 6GB 1060 GPU, this MSI Stealth is very thin light and portable and all metal very premium

Newegg is running a deal right now where you get a free EVGA 600W Bronze PSU when you buy an EVGA 1060 or higher.

Thanks

How limited are gaming laptops compared to desktops at around that price range?

I'm knowledgeable about a good bit of things, but this is one that is like learning a new language for me

Pretty limited because of thermals and form factor.

Can't wait till the AMD cards come out. If they come in under 600 and can compete with a 1080 TI, I'm jumping on it since I already have freesync.

Have an MSi GE-73 laptop with 6 core CPU and 1070, both pasted with liquid metal and see no lower than 80-85 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider running at 1080p Ultra.

Was more than 1500, though. Has 32GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD, 1TB m.2 SSD, and 2TB Firecuda SSHD.

The Polaris refresh cards aren't competing with the 1080ti.

Not the Polaris. The 7nm Vegas

Why? It's a "refined" last gen arch on a die shrink.

You get higher clocks and less power draw. That is good but it will be hard to come close to a used 1080 Ti price/performance.

7nm Vega 20 is for data centers, they aren't consumer cards.

AMD already said they are bringing it to gamers earlier this year.
