Make sure you have the latest drivers from the evga website.
My evga 550ti has been running it at 1920x res on ultra and I rarely notice it stutter. Not 60 fps and only 1080p but that's plenty good for me.
And put bioshock on the ssd if you hadn't.... Imo fwiw
I have an amd phenom 3.4 oc'd up to 3.6. 8 gigs ram. Windows 7. Ssd. Plus the gpu
Ballin on a budget. Its a way of life

I found a stable clock for this 570 I think.
GPU clock at 900
Voltage at 1075
Memory clock 2000
Temps stay in the low 70s and fan speed at about 46%

This. That's my best advice right now. i haven't seen a patch yet for this game so if there are some bugs like that, they haven't been fixed.

i'm pretty sure it automatically installed BioShock on my C: drive, my SSD.
must be i need the latest gfx card drivers.

I do not have bioshock on my SSD and it runs fine.

Went home at lunch and saw my first BI update, it was only 10mb though
Posted on 4/5/13 at 1:01 pm to Klark Kent
But I did just get an update from AMD. Not sure what you are using.

Is that update automatic or manual?
Posted on 4/5/13 at 1:39 pm to Blitzed
i only know, that specifically for EVGA 500 and 600 series cards, i have to download the driver bundle from the site and install it.
diff manufacturers and chipsets do things different though.
your 7870 may have had an auto update depending on the software. IM sure it has specialized drivers for Bioshock too.
Having up to date drivers is paramount for optimal performance.

AMD cards all use the same drivers, and its always best to download the drivers from AMDs site, not the card manufacturers site. Sometimes the card manufacturer doesn't have the newest betas

I just moved to the beta drivers for my 7870, no performance difference for BI but I wasn't having problems either.

updated gfx card drivers and installed that EVGA update. it seemed like it was working just fine and I paused to post here.....and it did the same thing.
getting discouraged. spent all this money on a new machine and I'm crashing BioShock after 5 minutes of play.

Have you tried googling the problem to see if its common or just reinstalling bioshock? I know it can be frustrating.

I tried to move Bioshock to my SSD but steammover error'd out and I had to reinstall. Worst case trying installing to you HHD and not your SSD.

Ah well I found your problem. Stop posting here with the game up...
Just kidding. Maybe reinstall DirectX 11?
or dx10

I can help you out Klark. Driving home from BR now. I will post some troubleshooting and fixes when I get home.
Hopefully someone could before then.
