Not using a soldered IHS is dumb on Intel's part. Going to take some balls to de-lid CPUs that costs over 1k.

For?
Fckk you Intel for holding PCIe lanes hostage again. Only way to get the 36 lanes most really want you have to buy into he i9 lineup @ $1K.
CPUs for gamers aren't where we put out money but we do need those lanes.

I play on a 34" widescreen. It sucks for certain games TBH. Too much real estate to cover to the point it can be distracting. 27" is the best IMO
Ya, I go back and forth over wanting a 34+" 1440p 21:9 or a 4K 27" with a second 27" 1080p or 1440p running along side. Both options have drawbacks though. Especially dealing with scaling issues with 4k at 27".

Yep. Broadwell E 6850k gave us 40 lanes for under $600. Now you need to jump all the way to the 7900x 10 core part that cost $1k to get more than 28 lanes. Fail for Intel when it comes to giving gamers what they want for a somewhat reasonable price.

Lanes and games are starting to utilize more and more threads.

Yeah I would have been happy with a 44 lane 8 core but I was willing to pay 1000 for the 6900 so since I waited I get 4 threads at least.

Lanes shouldn't be held hostage.we got those same lanes on previous chipsets at $300 bucks. It's surpression for capital gain.
As for the threads. I've run 6 cores E series for years. We have no benefit yet.
Edt: However it is a little okay for CPUs. Just because they are 2-3yr upgrade cycles compared to GPUs on 6mth - 1.5yr cycles.

For most games that's true but newer titles like WD2 6900k outperforms the 7700k

It's nothing to right home about. I'll agree on Ubisoft games.
I thought you would have said FarCry. But I believe it has to do with Windows using up resources more so than the engine utilizing extra threads.

hello pc enthusiasts,
I am planning a desktop build for development work (java) and some gaming.
I went through PCPartPicker and slapped together an AMD Ryzen build with an EVGA 1060 3GB vc
LINK
I haven't done much research yet, I don't know what vendors are good, which mobos are good, etc.
aside from wanting a Ryzen, I'm open to suggestions on any other part.
How can the above build be improved. I don't have a strict budget limit. If there is value in a more expensive component, convince me of it.
thank you for any suggestions and input.

EDIT
ok after a hard reset on my modem things appear to be fine, we will see how it goes.
Not bad when paying for 50 down.

I don't follow Nvidia much but I'm pretty sure the 6GB is quite a bit better and not much more, something about the 3GB versions have less cores with something disabled versus the 6GB.
Also get G.Skill RAM or find some X5 Corsair ram, that ram you have there is the Hynix version which are the ones that won't OC well on Ryzen atm, you want the Samsung dies if you want to hit 3000MHz+ speeds.

I need an itx Mobo for my non-k 6700. Any recommendations? I was looking at the cheapest h110 ASRock, but I know nothing of their cheap boards.
Also, would it be worth delidding the 6700? I'll be running a noctua l9i on it, but I hear those chips can get toasty

Good idea on both. Thanks.

Yeah I have no clue on those cheaper boards either.
I think it's always worth delidding now with how easy it has become tool or not, so I say yes. Get that Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut, it has the highest rated thermal conductivity by quite a bit (it's what I used as well) and you'll see minimum double digit improvement.

My buddy has this one and really likes it, no issues with it and overclocks well with a lot of settings. Gigabyte has been really quick with bios updates as well.
this one is great too

Asus just revealed the first AMD Ryzen laptop at Computex, 8 core R7 1700 inside and an RX580. What a beast.

64 lanes on the threadrippers is nice. Wish they had clocks and prices
