Oh whew. lol

Ever had a mechanical drive stop reading but it would spin and show in device manager? Was cleaning out some drives, (2x1TB WD Greens) remember 1 of them having this issue. It wouldn't work on any motherboard or external adapter.

Well it works on my new external adapter I bought. So IDK what the issue could have been, but works fine now after a reformat.

Pretty much the symptom of every mechanical drive that eventually died on me. Hard drives suck. That said, I need to order more of them.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on everything but my video cards today. 7700K, MSI M5 mobo, 16GB DDR4 3600, plus a case, PSU, and cooler for the media server.

Guess I ought to get one of those delidding tools, too.

Nice

I picked up a Gigabyte Gaming 7 and 7700k with 3200 CL14 trident finally. Kinda regret not going Ryzen now, but I'm delidded already and don't feel like returning everything lol.

Still waiting on my 1080Ti, it's on preorder still, have my two 780Tis in there. Wish I could move my 4770k to my Mame cabinet, but alas it's dead.

Yea it's going to be a lot cheaper in Texas vs SWLA. Rental prices are OOC here.

I went solely on looks for the mobo this time (a given, of course, that the board has acceptable features and overclocking stability).

MSI is mostly black with RGB LEDs, which I can either pick a color I like or turn them the frick off. Same with the RAM.

Could do without the MSI "gaming" dragon, though.

Did you get Trident RAM too? I am now second-guessing this RGB shite on the RAM. Looks like the default is rainbow, the RGB control software is still in beta, and may actually conflict with other RGB light software like MSI's.

I got the Gigabyte Z270 Gaming 7 as well. I like it. I'll probably post pics of the finished build eventually. Or not.

I got trident without the rgb's. I don't like lights in my PC. I got the ones that are black and silver.

They are overclocked to 3600 CL15 already lol

I went on not having realtec audio like my Asus, shite was garbage. I didn't feel like buying a sound card. I'm not a big audio person.

It's nice board and I like the bios, my first gigabyte board. I wasn't happy with my asus rog.

I will post some maybe tomorrow or when I get my 1080Ti.

I've gone away from giving a frick about my PC looks, especially in my define R5 without the window. I love the absolute silence I get while doing anything taxing on my PC.

Selling them with the 980s, unfortunately. I lost the original coolers in the flood, so it's going to be a tough sell.

Was a non-issue for me. Still using the same DAC/Amp stack with my Q701s since 2013.

Don't see any 3600 CL15 kits except one that's gray and red. If the RGB shite gives me trouble I'll return them. They're 3600 CL 16. Almost got some 3200 CL14. Makes no difference. Latency limits speed limits latency and so on and so forth.

I may very well take you up on that, or just give you some reasonable amount of money for them if I can't get any takers for the cards with blocks. But then again, you might find it just as difficult to get rid of your 980s without the coolers. You know, whenever you go to sell those things next week.
