Within the past 3 months or so...
CPU: I went from some athlon to coyotes haswell i3 to the 2500k and now hopefully to the 4930k
GPU: r7 250 to a 7950 to SLI 970s
Monitors: 23" 1080p and a 21" 1680x1050 to dual 1440ps and a 50" 1080p
And now I'm almost done with my i7 2600 and gtx 970 HTPC for my 4K tv.
I can't contain myself

I've recently gotten the itch to get into PC gaming and want to try and build my own. I have been doing some research on it but get lost in the technical aspects of it all. I put together a PCPartPicker list that roughly fits my price range. I'm not certain if the aftermarket CPU cooler and extra fans are necessary. Looking to get it closer to $700 if possible.
I will be looking to play RPGs and FPS mainly. Any critiques would be appreciated.

Got a Titan X Pascal? I have one under water and it's good enough for 4K. This is coming from an over kill guy.
Yeah. It falls just short of 4k 60 fps occasionally and I'd like to future proof for 3 years or so.

LF water cooling parts?
Edt: I have tons of EK fittings, tubing, acrylic, D5 and DDC pumps with tops. A few choices of resovior also. Will try to take a pic because I'm flying back home right now and only in for 1 night.
I'll give you most of the items. Mainly the pumps are the only things I won't give away but sell at a good price.
Yes. If I bought all of that from you what would I be missing?

Nah no such thing as future proofing. You build to a spec and what you want from the setup.
Those cards are old in 2years. As someone who knows the nonexisted resale value of Titans I recommend maybe one and buying a pair of 1080Tis when they launch. The rumor is we will get a Pascal refresh next year in April.

A RAD. I have extra RAD but they are 120mm and 80mm I used for an iTX water cooled build.

DX12 kicks arse. Fury X decisively beats the 1070 and ~7% from a 1080! Crazy.

I'd need the blocks for the 4770 and the titans too right?

Even if it's 2 years I'm OK with the purchase. Ultimately games are still developed around ps4 and xb1 (soon to be ps4p and scorpio). Pascal titans on water shouldn't have issues pushing 4k 60 until pretty far down the road, and then I'll drop some settings till the next build.

I have an EK CPU block that will fit 1150. You just need GP102-400 blocks. Got mine straight from EKWB because Performance PCs didn't have any in stock and FrozenCPU I still don't trust after their little issue.

I want a pinball machine for my office. Not sure what, though. South Park maybe but the only ones are fairly old and not up to date with new characters.

Thank you for the help. In your opinion, do you think a first time PC gamer should build or buy a pre-built PC? I'm not so much concerned with the building aspect as I am with starting off on the right foot at a decent price point.
Posted on 10/14/16 at 10:02 pm to ScatterShoot
I built my first one with no experience other than building shite with legos as a kid. I used the guides and advice I got from these guys, watched a few videos of someone putting one together. It was a breeze.
You get so much more bang for your buck too.

Gaming PCs are always much better when custom-built, regardless of experience level. It's particularly true at price points below $1,000 because there are no pre-built "gaming" machines in that price range that can compete with a properly configured custom build. They always have too much CPU/RAM and a pathetic video card, because most consumers are more attracted to (and more knowledgeable about) CPU and RAM specs. Big numbers sell, and "i7, 16GB of RAM" looks better on paper than a high video card model number.

I went close to full retard. Granted I am only home in the states for 35 days a year so building a desktop is outta the question. I ordered the following:
MSI GT73VR Titan-Pro 4k - $3355.00
17.3" IPS 60Hz G-sync 4K screen
i7 6820HK (2.7GHz-3.6GHz outta the box)
GTX 1080
64GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM
256GB PCIe NVMe SSD
1TB 7200RPM HDD
GenTechPC MSI GT73VR GTX 1080 Full Review
The RAM and 4K screen are over-kill, but was only $200.00 more than the 1080p 120Hz screen (not on good enough internet for shooters anyway) and 32GB of RAM.
I originally was going to buy a bare bones Clevo with nothing in the chassis but the motherboard, GPU, and wireless lan card with a 120Hz 1440p screen and populate everything else my self. It ended up being with what I wanted in the laptop, I would have only saved about $200.00 and would have had to wait for everything to get to me to in Afghanistan.
