No just first time CPU fan problems, was just being a little shy at first and it also doesn't say shite for 1151 other than it supports it in the instructions so I had to guess the alignment. There should be no problems from double dropping it right? Didn't make a mess with the thermal paste or anything.

Also about to do a test boot before I go all in, here it goes...

Some MOBOs have resistors on the back side that get in the way of mounting brackets. Its the worst.

Middle holes for socket 1155/1150/1151

Lifting the heatink and placing it back on without respreading the thermal paste might create small pockets of air, so check temps.

Which would be better, a powerline adapter or a PCI/USB n600/n900 wifi adapter? Strictly for gaming performance

My PCI N900 gets me 120-150 down and 20-30 up.

Your mileage may vary. I have really good wifi.

I have 18mb plan with uverse, and I'm too lazy to run a 200ft cat5 cable through the attic.

I just want to have the best possible ping for games

Edit: did you get the ~$40 pci n900 by tp link

Couple of quick questions.

1) Any reason I shouldn't hop on the free Windows 10 upgrade bandwagon this weekend before it expires? Currently on 7 and like it fine. Is 10 relatively good?

2) I'd be comfortable with throwing 200-300 towards PC upgrades. I play games such as Cities Skylines, Banished, Arma III, the Total War Games, etc, as well as doing some productivity such as Photoshop, Lightroom, and Sony Movie Studio HD Platinum.

Do I have a significant isolated bottleneck in the below set up? Or are things paired off enough such that I should wait til I'm willing to spend more and do a complete refresh? Wouldn't want to spend more than $200-300 at this time. Interested in keeping it relatively up to date.

CPU: Intel i7-4770K CPU @ 3.5GHz
VPU: Geforce GTX 760
MB: Gigabyte Z87X-D3H
RAM: 16 GB
Solid State Drive

No reason not to go with Windows 10. Download your mobo drivers for Windows 10 and go for it.

I have the same CPU. No bottleneck issues. For your budget, get either a GTX 1060 of AMD RX-480, and an aftermarket cooler of some sort for your CPU so you can put a small OC on the CPU.

Am now officially a PC gamer again, I'm really loving my new rig and the Fury is blasting anything I throw at it. Will try to find out how to share some pictures of it.

Yeah, really no reason not to upgrade to 10. One-Year Anniversary Update is right around the corner as well. I am part of the Insider Fast Ring so I am constantly running new versions of 10 and haven't had any problems with any of them.

Looks like 1060's are out of stock in a lot of places for the sub-300 models... did it just come out and start flying off shelves?

Yeah pretty good midrange. The RX280 would be a great choice also.

Okay one more question - I'm actually helping a friend with a build today, short notice, and he wants to budget $600 (let's say pre tax) on CPU/MB/RAM/GPU... for gaming and general productivity. Any recommendations in that range?

Thinking $200 for CPU, $100-130 for MB, remaining balance to GPU and RAM

A beefy PSU, SSD, peripherals & ATX case already on hand (bought on prime day)

PCP didn't have too many prices on the 1060 or rx 480 but thats probably what your looking at for about ~$600-$650

AMD stock skyrockets today, acquisition most likely incoming when a stock rises that much over 2 days.

Gotta call my uncle and ask what I should do here, sell off soon or continue through possibly acquisition, this is where I tend to get lost in the stock market but luckily have family involved heavily to help me out.

Bought in for 3,000 shares at $2.83/share earlier this year, stock is currently at $6.70/share with analyst predictions of $10/share and minimum $8-9 by years end.

quote:

The nearly 30 percent two-day rise is typically indicative of a potential acquisition deal, with likely prospects Chinese technology companies, said Will Strauss, an analyst with Arizona-based Forward Concepts Co. “My guess is somebody’s looking at them,” he said. “Clearly AMD has valuable products and valuable [intellectual property] and good leadership.”
